Gauley, Alonzo James (1875-1955)

Alonzo James Gauley was an accountant who lived at 1844 Georgia Street from 1905 to 1914.

He was born on November 30, 1875 in Grenville, Quebec. His father was David Lister Gauley (1847-1924); his mother was Sarah, who was born in 1850 in Quebec.

In 1899, in New York City, Alonzo married Ella Frances Chace. She was born on July 15, 1879 in Manhattan, New York City Her father was Earl Bradford Chace; her mother was Annie Maria Weston (1852-1913).

Alonzo and Ella were living in New York City in 1900, with their daughter, Dorothy, as well as Ella’s mother, Annie, and Ella’s brother, Earl.

For unknown reasons, Alonzo appeared as a single man in the 1901 Canada census, living with his parents in Vancouver. By about 1905, Alonzo and Ella were living at 1844 Georgia Street in Vancouver. Alonzo was a bookkeeper at McLennan, McFeely & Co.

Ella died in Vancouver on January 4, 1907; she was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

In 1911, Alonzo was still an accountant. His parents were living with him at 1844 Georgia Street, along with Alonzo’s daughter, Dorothy, and his son, Howard.

Alonzo married a second time, to Edna Florence Pillar. She was born on September 6, 1890, in Almonte, Ontario. Her father was Solomon Arvid Pillar (1860-1944); her mother was Margaret Ann Curry (1863-1935).

Alonzo died in Vancouver on September 9, 1955; he was buried in Mountain View Cemetery. Edna died in Kamloops, British Columbia, on August 27, 1977.

Alonzo James Gauley and Ella Frances Chace had two children:

Dorothy Sarah Gauley

Dorothy Sarah Gauley was born in New York City. On April 19, 1922, in Vancouver, she married Frank John Morrell Norris. He was born in London, England, on November 22, 1888. He died on April 23, 1969 in Vancouver. Dorothy died in Victoria, British Columbia, on July 26, 1983.

Howard Lister Gauley

Howard Lister Gauley was born in New York City on March 10, 1903. He married Annabelle Gove Clark. She was born on December 31, 1908, in Lumsden, Saskatchewan. She died in Vancouver on December 10, 1970. Howard died in Vancouver on December 30, 1974.

Alonzo James Gauley and Edna Florence Pillar had two children:

Gordon Gauley

Gordon Gauley was living in Calgary, Alberta in 1955, and in Edmonton Alberta in 1974.

Bruce Stewart Gauley

Bruce Stewart Gauley was born in Vancouver. He was living in Regina, Saskatchewan in in 1955, in Richmond, British Columbia in 1974, and in Kamloops, British Columbia in 1977. He was married to Margaret Agnes McIntyre.

Bruce Stewart Gauley and Margaret Agnes McIntyre had a daughter namede Pariticia May Gauley. She was gorn on July 4, 1949, in Chilliwack, British Columbia. She died in a swimming accident at Cultus Lake, British Columbia on November 20, 1952.

GAULEY – Gordon Walter of Kelowna, passed away peacefully on August 1st, 2005 at 84 years. He is predeceased by his lovely wife Teresa (T). Survived by his daughters, Barbara Dianne and Donna Kathleen, grandsons, great-granddaughters, nieces and nephews. His greatest joy was sharing the good life with his bride “T”, the love of his life. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 6th, 2005 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at #19-545 Glenmeadows Road, Kelowna.
