In 1912, he was a construction engineer with Allis Chalmers Bullock.

William married Mary Isabel Yuill. She was born on May 14, 1895, in Arnprior, Ontario. Her father was John Buchanan Yuill. Her mother was Mary Jane Stirling.

William first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1913, and he was at the following addresses in Vancouver:

1913 938 Thurlow Street
1914 1822 Alberni Street
1919 1185 Haro Street
1920 number 6, 1185 Haro Apartments

In 1913, he was a salesman for Allis Chalmers Bullock. He was living at 938 Thurlow Street.

(Everett Mark Breed, of 1020 Chilco Street in 1910, was the manager of the Vancouver office of Allis Chalmers.)

In 1915 and 1916, William was a contracting engineer in Vancouver. He was also an electrical engineer with the Roucher de Boule Mining Company in Skeena Crossing, British Columbia.

In 1916, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces to serve during the First World War.

In 1917, he was an electrical engineer in Renfrew, Ontario.

By 1918, William served as a lieutenant with the Canadian Engineers.

Mary died in 1918. (There is a memorial to her at the family plot in Renfrew Public / Thompsonville / Thompson Hill Cemetery in Renfrew County, Ontario.)

After the war, William returned to the practice of engineering in Vancouver. He was in a firm with Edgar Archibald Jamieson (1888-1960).

In 1919 and 1920, William lived in an apartment building at 1185 Haro Street.

William died on January 15, 1957. He was buried in Renfrew Public / Thompsonville / Thompson Hill Cemetery.

Estelle died in Renfrew, Ontario, on September 30, 1968. She was buried in Thompson Hill Cemetery.

It appears that William and Mary had a daughter, Jessie Nina McAndrew, who was born between 1910 and 1915. No further information is available for Jessie.

Nevertheless “Mac” decided to pick out the oasis, and fixed upon Renfew. Ont., as his base of operations. He received his preparatory training at St. Andrew’s College and Renfrew Collegiate Institute. From there he proceeded to join the Electrical class of 1910. In his first two years, he represented his class in the Students’ Parliament, varying the monotony of his parliamentary duties with a little studying. “Mac” took an interest in all branches of athletics and upheld the honor of his Alma Mater on the Swimming Team. During his course, he has made many friends at the School, who feel confident that the good qualities he has shown there, will ensure his future success.”
