Eddy, Albert Clarke (1878-1948)

Albert Clarke Eddy was a civil engineer for the British Columbia Electric Railway Company. He lived at 891 Chilco Street in 1920 and at 778 Gilford Street in 1921 and 1922.

He was born on February 27, 1878, in Bristol, Rhode Island. His father was George Osman Eddy (1844-1921). His mother was Charlotte Archibald 1850-1934).

By 1900, he was living with his parents in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was working as a civil engineer.

On April 30, 1901, in the First Unitarian Church in Minneapolis, he married Ruth Hosmer. She was born on October 18, 1879, in St. Louis, Missouri. Her father was James Kendall Hosmer (1834-1927), a well-known academic and librarian. Ruth’s mother was Jennie Persis Garland (1851-1920), James Kendall Hosmer’s second wife.

Albert and Ruth continued to live in the Minneapolis area until about 1909. Albert worked as a civil engineer on several railway construction projects, including the Great Northern Railroad’s line from Seattle, Washington, to New Westminster.

After the family arrived in Canada about 1909, they lived in New Westminster until 1918. Albert was a civil engineer for the British Columbia Electric Railway.

About 1920, they moved to Vancouver, where they lived at 891 Chilco Street. In 1921and 1922 , they were at 778 Gilford Street.

In 1923, they moved to 1620 Burnaby Street, where they continued to live until 1947.

Albert died in Vancouver on March 8, 1948.

Ruth died in Vancouver on September 16, 1960.

Albert and Ruth had the following children.

 

Rachel Eddy

Rachel Eddy was born in Minnesota, probably at or near Minneapolis, on March 8, 1905.

On June 30, 1926, in Vancouver, Rachel married Roderick Daniel Peck, who was a law student. He was born on February 5, 1902, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father was Horace Edsel Peck. His mother was Lillian Daniel. This marriage ended in divorce. Roderick died in Minnesota on July 21, 1974.

On May 27, 1937, Esther married Brian Wilton Markham, who was a salesman. He was born in Maidenhead, England on June 28, 1897. His father was Joseph Brian Markham. His mother was Marie Wilton. (Brian had been married before, to Ernestine Margaret Parkin. Their marriage was in Vancouver on June 23, 1916, and it was dissolved in Vancouver on February 24, 1936.)

Rachel died in Vancouver on April 3, 1952.

Brian later married Jean Christine Foster, who was born in 1904. Brian died at Ganges, on Salt Spring Island, on July 19, 1976. Christine died at Ganges on April 13, 1991.

 

Esther Eddy

Esther Eddy was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 29, 1909.

On July 3, 1937, in Vancouver, Esther married William Irwin, who was a widowed salesman. He was born in Vancouver on March 10, 1898. His father was William Henry Irwin. His mother was Emily Charlotte Roycroft.

Esther died in North Vancouver on March 24, 1956.

William later married Dorothy Constance Elliot. She was born on September 26, 1909, in Crofton, British Columbia. Her father was Arthur Elliot. Her mother was Constance Agnes Mosley.

Dorothy died at Ganges, British Columbia, on March 16, 1979.

William died at Ganges on October 4, 1987.
