Ford, George Neil (1882-1960)

George Neil Ford was an accountant, bookkeeper, and “computer” for the Dominion Assay Office. He lived at 1813 Beach Avenue (later called 1813 Morton Avenue) in 1911 and at 1857 Alberni Street in 1916 and 1917.

George was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on January 1, 1882. His father was George Samuel Ford. His mother was Annabella Barbara (or Isabella) Macdonald.

George served in the war in South Africa.

On February 5, 1910, in Vancouver, George married Blanche May Wells. She was born in Highmore, South Dakota, on March 23, 1889. Her father was John Luke Wells (1867-1947). Her mother was Betsey (or Bessie) Lavinia Orton.

George and Blanche lived in a series of houses in Vancouver. They moved every year from 1910 to 1917.

George continued to work for the Dominion Assay Office.

He was the manager of the office from 1926 until he retired about 1946.

George died in Vancouver on December 6, 1960. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Blanche died in Burnaby, British Columbia, on January 2, 1966. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

George and Blanche had the following children.

George Macdonald Ford

George Macdonald Ford was born in Vancouver on August 29, 1910. He worked for a period as a miner.

On November 7, 1929, in Vancouver, George married Elva Mabel Walker. She was born in Warner, Alberta on September 19, 1912. Her father was John Arthur Walker. Her mother was Louise Harvey.

George later worked as a machinist for Industrial Engineers Ltd.

George died in Vancouver on June 25, 1957. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Elva later married Charles Edward Stansfield. He was born in England on June 3, 1889. His father was Herbert Stansfield. His mother was Agnes Oates. Charles had been married before, to Marie Rose Syche (1908-1956).

Charles died in Vancouver on July 20, 1973.

Elva died in Burnaby, British Columbia, on September 28, 1991.

Barbara May Ford

Barbara May Ford was born in British Columbia, probably in Vancouver, about 1915.

It appears that she did not marry. She was living in Vancouver in 1966 and was probably still in Vancouver in 1978.

Kenneth Ian Ford

Kenneth Ian Ford was born in Vancouver on June 3, 1917. On April 17, 1948, he married Elsie Scheunert. She was born in Trochu, Alberta, on April 3, 1919. Her father was Louie Scheunert. Her mother was Anna Ganz. Kenneth and Elsie were later divorced.

Kenneth worked in retail sales.

Kenneth died in New Westminster, British Columbia, on September 9, 1978.

Elsie died in Calgary on November 23, 2009.
