William Caspar Heilbron was an accountant and bookkeeper.

The Vancouver directories listed him at 1882 Beach Avenue in 1903 and at 1872 Beach Avenue in 1904 and 1905.

Abraham continued to operate his jewelry and watchmaking business until the 1880s.

In 1887, Abraham’s older son, George, moved to Seattle, Washington, where he became a journalist and manager of a trust company. Abraham and his younger son, William, also moved to Seattle.

George Heilbron died in Seattle in April 1895. Much of George’s estate went to Abraham.

On August 5, 1890 in Seattle, William married Eva Bell, who was the widow of Austin Armenius Bell (1854-1889), a wealthy Seattle resident.

Eva was born in Vacaville, Solano County, California in 1863. Her parents were William Buford Davis (1828–1920) and Emeline Wells (1832–1901).

By 1905, William and Bonnie were back in Minneapolis.

In 1907, the Minneapolis directory stated that William had moved to St. Paul, the state capital which is not far from Minneapolis.

Bonnie’s Death

On February 5, 1910, Bonnie Heilbron died in Faribault, Minnesota, which is about 70 kilometres south of Minneapolis. She was buried in Morristown, about 14 kilometres southwest of Faribault.

Later Life

So far, no reference for William has turned up for the 1910 United States census. However, his older son, William, Jr., was living in a rooming house in St. Paul. William’s younger son, Julian, was boarding with a family in Northfield City, Minnesota.

 

In 1912, William and his sons were tenants in the Plymouth Building in downtown Minneapolis.

In 1914, the City of New Ulm, Minnesota hired William to audit the city’s books.

The audit did not go smoothly, and William claimed that the city still owed him for work that he had done. The city refused to pay William’s claim. The city also demanded that William had to refund money that the city had already paid him. After the case went to trial, William realized that his claim was not going to succeed, so his lawyers agreed to dismiss the case.

By 1915, William was advertising his accounting services in San Francisco.

In the 1918 San Francisco directory, there were two entries for W.C. Heilbron. It appears that the one who was a bookkeeper was William, and that the other one was his son, William, Jr.

In 1920, William was living in a rooming house at 405 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco, California.

When his son, Julian, applied for a United States passport in 1924, Julian did not know where William was.

William appeared in 1926 California voter registration list. He was living at 553 Duboce Avenue in San Francisco.

William Heilbron and Eva Davis had two children.

 

William Caspar Heilbron, Junior (Sparky)

William Caspar Heilbron, Junior, was born in Seattle, Washington on April 17, 1892. His nickname was “Sparky.”

In 1961, he wrote to the Vancouver Province, describing his adventures on English Bay, and remembering a particular incident with Joe Fortes, who was Vancouver’s well-known swimming instructor and lifeguard.

Sparky was a railroad worker for many years, and he also worked as a newspaperman and as a news editor for a radio station.

He was married three times. His wives were Sarah Virginia Knight (1891–1920); Florence Adaline Conner (1899–1994); and Mae D. Schoonover (1893–1968).

Sparky died in Placer County, California on December 3, 1961. He was buried in Roseville Public Cemetery in Roseville, California.
