Albert Ernest Marett was a druggist who lived at 1224 Denman Street in 1908.

Early Life

Albert Ernest Marett was born in Newcastle, Ontario, on August 31, 1874. His parents were Phillip Marett (1831-1915) and Ann Stafford (1839-1931).

In 1891 he was a druggist’s clerk in Millbrook, Ontario.

In 1901 he was a druggist in Victoria, British Columbia.

Marriage to Eva Finney

On October 1, 1901, in Toronto, Ontario, Albert married Eva Mary Finney. She was born in Lindsay, Ontario, on October 31, 1873. Her parents were William Finney and Margaret Armstrong.

To Vancouver

In September 1905, Albert became the supervisor of the Public Drug Company’s store at 209 West Hastings Street in Vancouver. Wallace S. Terry of Victoria was the other partner in the business.

Albert first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1906. He was living at 1156 Thurlow Street.

By 1908, Albert was in a new business with Albert Scott Reid (1873-1948).

Marett & Reid was at 1216 Denman Street from 1908 to 1911. The firm also had other branches in greater Vancouver and in Victoria.

Later Life

Albert belonged to the Vancouver Rowing Club and the Masonic Temple. His main sporting activity was lawn bowling.

Eva died in Vancouver on August 4, 1942. She was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Albert retired in 1947. He died in Vancouver on November 18, 1955. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby.

Leila Margaret Marett was born in Victoria on September 24, 1902.

She became a school teacher.

She did not marry.

She died in Vancouver on October 9, 1943. She was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Verna Stafford Marett

Verna Stafford Marett was born in Victoria, British Columbia on July 2, 1905.

She became a school teacher.

On April 3, 1931, in Smithers, British Columbia, she married Harvey Amidon, who was a farmer.

Ernest Clinton Marett

Ernest Clinton Marett was born in Vancouver on October 16, 1909.

On December 25, 1936, in Ocean Falls, British Columbia, he married Margaret Robertson Gunn. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on April 10, 1913. Her parents were John Leith Gunn and Florence Anne Telford.

Ernest worked as a clerk and data processing manager. He died in Burnaby, British Columbia, on July 17, 1971.

John (“Jack”) A. Marett

John (“Jack”) A. Marett was born in Vancouver on March 30, 1919.

During the Second World War he was a flying officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal Air Force.

He died on February 4, 2010.
