1216 Denman Street

1216 Denman Street was on the east side of Denman Street, south of the intersection with Davie Street. It was part of a building that also included 1218 Denman Street.

The building appeared to have a tall, rectangular front, but the roof was actually a gable roof and the building had a false front.

Legal Description: District Lot: 185; Block: 62; south half of Lot 14.

The building did not appear in the 1901 and 1903 versions of a Vancouver fire insurance plan. However, it was present in later plans.

In 1931, the Orange Grill was at 1216 Denman Street. George Rochelle was the proprietor.

In April 1931, the contents of a confectionery store (perhaps the Orange Grill) were for sale by auction at 1216 Denman Street.

From 1933 to early 1935, the building was vacant.

From mid-1935 to 1937, the Braemar Bakery had a store at 1216 Denman Street.

From the late 1940s until the mid-1950s, the east side of the 1200 block of Denman Street was vacant, and it operated as a parking lot.

Berkeley Tower

In 1958, a developer built the Berkeley Tower apartment building on the site. (The address is 1770 Davie Street.)
