Harold Idsardi was a civil engineer and land surveyor who lived at 1019 Gilford Street from 1920 to about 1948.

 

Family Background

Harold Idsardi was born on August 27, 1882, in Elgin County, Ontario. His parents were William E. Idsardi and Margaret Hutchinson.

William E. Idsardi was born on September 2, 1844, in Temaud Friesland, Holland. He came to Canada about 1850, and he became a surveyor and real estate broker. He was the mayor of St. Thomas, Ontario, in 1895-1896. He died at his residence in St. Thomas on July 28, 1929. He was buried in the St. Thomas Cemetery, in St. Thomas, Ontario.

Margaret (or Maggie) Hutchinson was born on November 15, 1853 in Ontario. She died on July 31, 1914, probably in St. Thomas. She was buried in the St. Thomas Cemetery, in St. Thomas, Ontario.

 

To Vancouver

Harold arrived in Vancouver about 1910.

He became a civil engineer with Colonel Thomas Henry Tracy (1848-1925) and John Ham Kilmer (1861-1938).

 

Marriage to Loulie Fitzhugh

On November 18, 1912, in Los Angeles, California, Harold married Loulie Aylett K. Fitzhugh. She was born on August 14, 1887, in Fairfax, Virginia. Her parents were Thadeus Fitzhugh and Penelope R. Jackson. (Penelope had later married John Elwood).

Life in Vancouver

Harold carried on a civil engineering business in Vancouver.

Idsardi Mountain, on Vancouver Island, is named after him. He conducted a timber survey of the Idsardi valley in 1912.

Harold and Loulie were in the Vancouver society directory in 1914.

Harold died in 1962. He was buried in St. Thomas Cemetery in St. Thomas, Ontario.

 

Children

Harold and Loulie had the following children: A daughter who was born stillborn on December 29, 1915, in Vancouver; and three sons.

 

Sisters of Harold Idsardi

Harold Idsardi had a sister named Helen Gertude Idsardi. On October 5, 1909, Helen married John Howe Richardson, who was born on June 30, 1883, in Manchester, England. He was a banker and a public accountant.

Harold Idsardi had another sister named Beatrice Carr Idsardi. She was born on September 26, 1889, in Ontario. She may have married Major Percy Ermatinger on June 17, 1933, in Toronto, Ontario.
