Milloy, Archibald (1864-1959)

Archibald Milloy was a dentist. He lived at 1905 Beach Avenue from 1907 to 1909.

Archibald Milloy was born on March 17, 1864 (some sources say 1862), in Gould Village, Lingwick Township, Quebec.

Archibald’s father was John Milloy (1821-1907), who was a Scottish-born Presbyterian clergyman. John Milloy was the minister in Gould in the 1860s.

John Milloy later served in Argyle Presbyterian Church in Aldborough Township, Ontario, from 1871 to 1901. By 1906, he was in Alberta. He died on September 21, 1907, and he was buried in Pine Creek Cemetery in De Winton, Alberta.

Archibald Milloy’s mother was Henrietta Cumming Grant. She was born on December 29, probably in 1835, in Martintown, north of Cornwall, Ontario. Her parents were James Grant and Jane Orde. Sometime after her husband’s death in 1907, Henrietta went to live in Ontario. She died in Gloucester, Ontario, on February 15, 1915. She was buried in Pine Creek Cemetery in De Winton, Alberta.

After going to school in Ontario, Archibald studied dentistry. By 1891, he was a dentist in Petrolia, Ontario.

On September 7, 1891, in Toronto, Ontario, Archibald married Emma Jackson. She was born in Cobourg, Ontario about 1867. Her father was John Jackson. Her mother was Rachael Moody.

Archibald and Emma were still in Petrolia when their son, John Archibald Vincent Milloy was born on July 9, 1894.

By 1898, Archibald had established himself as a dentist in Sandon, British Columbia.

In 1910 they moved to 2298 West Second Avenue. They were still there in 1921.

By 1929, they were at 732 West Marine Drive.

Emma died in Vancouver on April 14, 1929.

On September 21, 1931, in Vancouver, Archibald married Mary Clara Mckieman. She was born on July 12, 1875, in Toronto, Ontario. Her father was John Wesley Bridgman. Her mother was Mary Brant.

Archibald continued with his dentistry practice in Vancouver through the 1940s.

Mary died in Vancouver on May 17, 1948.

Archibald died in Burnaby, British Columbia on May 29, 1959.

Archibald Milloy and Emma Jackson had one son.

John Archibald Vincent Milloy

John Archibald Vincent Milloy was born in Petrolia, Ontario on July 9, 1894.

It appears that he never married.

He studied dentistry for some time, and then worked as a self-employed fisherman. On November 15, 1923, he was on the Canadian halibut boat “Thelma No. 1.” Five crewmen were swept overboard, and three were able to get back on the vessel. John Milloy was one of the two who drowned. His body was never recovered.
