Shortly after arriving in Vancouver, Robert worked as a construction supervisor with the Canadian Pacific Railway. From about 1905 to 1908, he was involved with the building of the C.P.R.’s Empress Hotel in Victoria, British Columbia.

After the Empress Hotel was finished, Robert began his time as a superintendent in the Vancouver architectural office of Thomas Hooper.

In 1914 Robert started his own office, although he also worked occasionally with Thomas Hooper in the later 1920s. He retired about 1935.

Annie died at Metchosin, British Columbia, on May 2, 1938.

Robert died in Vancouver on July 3, 1940.

Robert and Annie had a daughter.

 

Edythe Anne Wilson

Edythe Anne Wilson was born in Montreal, Quebec, on February 10, 1883.

On June 29, 1905, in Victoria, British Columbia, she married George Edward Winter, an accountant who was living in Seward, Alaska. He was born in Prescott, Ontario, on November 9, 1874. His parents were William B. Winter and Jane McFarlane.

In 1914, George built a house at 4749 West Second Avenue. Thomas Hooper’s firm designed the house (possibly with Robert Wilson as the main architect).

She was great-grandmother to Aaron, Kyle, Raina, and Raven. Growing up in Worthing on the Sussex coast, living in and experiencing the wonder and delight of the tropics, and the variety and magnificence of British Columbia gave Doris an abiding love and respect for the beauty of the natural world. Family and friends were especially important to her. As well, she worked intently in her neighbourhood to encourage a sense of community. Doris trained as a nurse in London, England and continued her love of learning throughout her life. She read widely in the areas of literature, science, and technology. Wanting to communicate with friends from different cultures she studied French, German, and Spanish into her mid-eighties. Doris was passionately interested in the arts. She supported local ballet, music, and theatre and she actively participated in writing, painting, photography, and film-making. Doris will be missed and lovingly remembered by her family and many friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 23, 2004 at St. Johns (Shaughnessy) Anglican Church, 1490 Nanton (at Granville). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to the United Way of the Lower Mainland.”
