Leader, Addie (about 1893-after 1929)

Mrs. Addie Leader was the widow of Arthur J. Leader. She lived at 1178 Denman Street in 1919 and at 1180 Denman Street in 1920 and 1921. She operated a confectionery at 1180 Denman Street  in 1920.

From 1923 to 1929 she lived at 1773 Davie Street.

According to the 1921 Canada census, Addie was born about 1893 in the United States; both of her parents were also born in the United States. Addie came to Canada about 1910, and became a naturalized Canadian citizen in 1913.

There was an Arthur J. Leader who lived in Vancouver starting in 1913. He aw at 1261 Granvill Street in 1913. In 1914, he was a travelling inspector (or perhaps an instructor) with the S & D car department of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He lived at the following addresses:

1913 1261 Granville Street
1914 Newport Hotel [Newport Rooms: 1261 Granville Street]
1915 Number 3, 1778 Davie Street
1916 Number 9, 1785 Davie Street
1917 1046 Granville Street
1918 Number 102, 789 Granville Street

According to the 1921 census, Addie was living with Caroline Pattie, who was born in England about 1891, and who came to Canada about 1906. The census described Addie and Caroline as sisters, although Caroline’s parents were both described as being born in England, so perhaps they were sisters-in-law.

No further information is available for Addie at this time.

It appears that Caroline Pattie was born Caroline Poole in England on January 24, 1887. She married David Robertson Pattie in Winnipeg, Manitoba on September 29, 1913. David was born on September 20, 1888, in Tayport, Fife, Scotland. His parents were David Pattie and Sena Johnson.

In 1915 he was a clerk at the Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. In 1920, David was the manager of the No Knocks Accessory Company, a Vancouver business that sold automobile accessories.

By 1922, David was a printer with Joseph W. Boyd in Vancouver. He worked as a clerk and accountant, and was the proprietor of a series of small businesses until he retired about 1967.

Caroline died in Vancouver on November 7, 1965.

It appears that David also married Grace Irwin Collins.

David died in Vancouver on December 18, 1969.

David and Caroline had a son named David Ross Pattie. He was born about 1916 in British Columbia. About 1953, he married Rosamund Wallace Neill (1918-1983). David Ross Pattie died in Vancouver on February 24, 1994.
