George Marrett lived at 1963 Georgia Street in 1908. The directory described him as a mariner. (Other sources say that he worked as a laborer for a time.)

 

Early Life

Morris George Marett was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 28, 1871. (He often went by the name “George Marett.”)

His parents were John Philippe Marett (1842–1908) and Caroline Lewis (about 1850-1912). (The spelling of the family surname is inconsistent: sometimes it appears as “Marett,” “Marrett,” “Maritt” or other variations.)

In 1881, George was living with his parents in Toronto.

 

To British Columbia

At the time of the 1891 Canada census, George was in New Westminster, British Columbia.

 

Possible Time in Ohio

According to a 1913 immigration document, George had been in Ohio in 1883 and 1904.

 

In Vancouver

In 1908, George was a mariner in Vancouver.

At the time of the 1911 Canada census, George was an odd-jobs laborer in Kamloops, British Columbia.

 

Travel to California

In 1913, George travelled to San Francisco, California. His last permanent residence had been Kamloops. His contact reference in Canada was his brother, William Marett, who lived at 130 Donniville Road in Toronto, Ontario.

In 1918, he was a crew member on a ship that sailed from Auckland, New Zealand to San Francisco.
