Lowery, David Alexander (1866-1947)

David Alexander Lowery was a poultry and fish dealer who lived at 2052 Beach Avenue from 1913 to 1922.

David Alexander Lowery was born about 1866 in Barrow in Furness, Lancashire, England. His father was Thomas (or John Thomas) Lowery. His mother was Margaret Morris.

David’s father died in the early 1870s. In 1873, David’s mother married Joseph Marriott. In 1881, David and the rest of his family were living with Joseph Marriott in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.

In 1886, David married Marion Hill King. She was born in Scotland in January 1869.

In 1891 and 1901 David was a game dealer, living in Newcastle upon Tyne.

In the fall of 1905, David became bankrupt.

He arranged to pay about one-third of his debts, and by the end of 1905 he was discharged from bankruptcy.

In the 1911 England and Wales census, David was residing in Marlow, Buckinghamshire. Marion and the rest of the family members were in Newcastle on Tyne.

By 1913, the family was in Vancouver, living at 2052 Beach Avenue. David was a clerk with G. Robinson (probably George Robinson, who had a fish and poultry business, with stores at 900 Granville Street and 1842 Commercial Drive).

By 1914, David’s occupation was “poultry dealer.”

Marion died in Vancouver on July 19, 1920. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

On June 30, 1921, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, David married Alice Smith. She was born in England on August 4, 1888. Her father was Thomas Smith. Her mother was Hannah Mary Wigglesworth.

In 1923, David and Alice moved to 2603 Wall Street in Vancouver. They continued to live at that address for the rest of their time in Vancouver.

David continued as a poultry and fish dealer for the rest of his working career in Vancouver.

Alice died in Vancouver on January 6, 1944. She was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

David died in Vancouver on August 25, 1947. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.

David and Marion had the following children.

 

Ruby Gordon Lowery

Ruby Gordon Lowery was born in 1888, possibly on January 8) in Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland, England. (Her death certificate says that she was born on January 8, 1894, but it appear that the correct year should be 1888).

She did not marry.

She worked as a clerk.

She died in Vancouver on January 4, 1919. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

David Alexander Lowery

David Alexander Lowery was born in Newcastle on Tyne in 1890.

In 1920 he was living in England.

He may have died in England in 1972.
