For much of the time, 1178 Denman Street was the site of a series of grocery stores, confectioneries and a variety store. Many of the businesses did not last long, which led to auction of stock and fixtures, along with sales of the businesses themselves.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Bayview Variety Store was at 1178 Denman Street. (Sometimes it was called “Bayview Variety Shop.”)
In the late 1960s, a delicatessen was operating at this location. In 1969 it was for sale.
The building later disappeared as part of the redevelopment of the Simpson Block site, which was at the northeast corner of Denman Street and Davie Street. Further information appears on the page for the Simpson Block.
