Three families lived in this house between 1905 and 1974.

The first occupant was Cecil Mack Merritt (1877-1915), a merchant and broker who lived here from 1905 to 1913. He was married to Sophie Almon Tupper, a daughter of Charles Hibbert Tupper (1855-1927). After the Merritt family moved out, the Vancouver Park Board took over the house and used it as a residence for park employees.

The second occupant was Allen Shakespeare Wootton (1873-1950), who lived here from 1914 to 1947. He was an engineer for the Vancouver Parks Board, and from 1936 to 1943 he was also the superintendent of parks. The third occupant was Stuart Stanley Lefeaux (1919-2011), who lived in the house from 1947 until about 1974. He was the city’s deputy superintendent of parks; he later became the superintendent.
