Joseph Walton was a retired staver and starch maker. He lived at 823 Park Road (later called Lagoon Drive) in 1903 and 1904. He also lived in an unnumbered house on Chilco Street from 1899 to 1902. (Perhaps this was the same house as 823 Park Road, but with a different address number.)
Joseph Walton was born on September 9, 1828, in Aldersgate, Middlesex. His father was Joseph Walton. His mother was Elizabeth Lily.
In 1859, he married Elizabeth Kemp Welch. She was born about 1830 in Christchurch, Hampshire. Her father was James Kemp-Welch (1806-1887), who was a doctor. Her mother was Mary Ann Hall.
Joseph and Elizabeth lived in Hackney, Middlesex, and later in Edmonton, Middlesex, until the 1890s.
Elizabeth may have died before 1897.
About 1897, Joseph and several of his children moved to Canada.
He first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1899-1900. He was living on Stanley Park Road. (Parts of Stanley Park Road became known as Chilco Street. Some parts were called Park Road, and later became Lagoon Drive).
After 1904 he lived in Langley Prairie, British Columbia.
He died in New Westminster, British Columbia on January 31, 1912. He was buried in the Oddfellows Cemetery.
Joseph and Elizabeth had the following children.
Marianne Carr Walton
Marianne Carr Walton was born in Hackney, London, England, on March 6, 1860. She was a stenographer and music teacher.
On September 13, 1911, in Vancouver, she married Arthur Ernest Thomas, who was a carpenter. He was born on November 17, 1865, in Gloucester, England. His foster parents were C. H. Thomas and Alice Scott.
Arthur and Marianne later moved to California. In 1928 they became naturalized United States citizens. In 1930 they were living in Ojai, Ventura County, California. In 1940, they were in San Diego, California.
Arthur died in San Diego on June 18, 1942.
Marianne died in Santa Barbara County, California, on March 11, 1943.
Arthur and Marianne did not have any children.
Emmeline Walton
Emmeline Walton was born in Hackney, London, in 1861. In 1871 and 1881 she was living with her parents.
Joseph Arthur Walton
Joseph Arthur Walton was born in Hackney, London, on November 5, 1862.
He did not marry.
He died in Victoria, British Columbia, on December 23, 1939. He was buried in Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria.
Henry Kenneth Walton
Henry Kenneth Walton was born in Hackney, London, in 1864.
In 1871, 1881 and 1891, he was living with his parents.
In 1939 he was living with his brother, Joseph Arthur Walton, in Victoria, British Columbia.
Lily I Walton
Lily I Walton was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, in 1866. In 1871 and 1881 she was living with her parents.
Agnes May Walton
Agnes May Walton was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, in 1868. In 1871 and 1881 she was living with her parents.
In 1890, in Wandsworth, London, England, she may have married Harry Walters.
Jessie Margaret Walton
Jessie Margaret Walton was born in Edmonton, Middlesex, in 1869.
In 1871, 1881, and 1891, she was living with her parents.
In 1911, she was living in Christchurch, Hampshire, England.
