Francis Ferguson Busteed – Vancouver Province – October 3 – 1921 – page 1

Francis Ferguson Busteed was a civil engineer and railway superintendent. He lived at 901 Chilco Street in 1917 and 1863 Comox Street in 1918.

He was born at Bonaventure, Quebec, on October 10, 1858. His father was Alexander Adam Busteed; his mother was Margaret Botsford.

He went to Montreal High School and studied engineering at McGill University.

On August 19, 1885, in Chatham, New Brunswick, Francis married Clara Louisa Ferguson. She was born in New Brunswick on October 30, 1859. Her father was Daniel Ferguson; her mother was Catherine Armstrong.

Francis started working for the Canadian Pacific Railway system in 1879. In 1890 he joined the Canadian and Great Falls Railway. Later he worked in the office of the city engineer in Bristol, Virginia.

In 1893, he rejoined the Canadian Pacific Railway, where he worked at a series of engineering and supervising jobs. In June 1904, he became the assistant chief engineer for the railway. In 1907, he succeeded Richard Marpole as the general superintendent at Vancouver.

In 1912, he went to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to be the general superintendent of the Manitoba division. Shortly afterward, he re-entered the engineering department of the railway. By 1916, he was back in Vancouver, living at 901 Chilco Street. In 1918, he was at 1863 Comox Street. He retired from the railway in 1918. From 1919 to 1921, he was living in Glencoe Lodge.

In 1921, he moved to the corner of Fifth Avenue and Tolmie Street, which is where he died on October 21, 1921. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Clara died in Vancouver on 25 September 25, 1936. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

 

Francis and Clara had the following children.

 

Daniel Ferguson Busteed

Daniel Ferguson Busteed was born in Montreal, Quebec, on November 27, 1889. On April 26, 1916, he married Gertrude Beatrice Burland. She was born in Montreal on May 2, 1884. Her parents were Robert Burland and Julia Weston.

Daniel became a medical doctor.

Gertrude died in Essondale, British Columbia, on May 31, 1962.

Daniel died in Vancouver on May 16, 1974.

 

Marjorie Helen Busteed

Marjorie Helen Busteed was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 5, 1892. She never married. She died in Vancouver on February 27, 1983.

 

Francis Alexander Busteed

Francis Alexander Busteed was born on June 25, 1897 in Fort William, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. He died on October 1, 1918; he was buried in Tilloy-les-Cambrai cemetery, Nord, France.
