Cater, Samuel Albert (1879-1965)

Samuel Albert Cater was an accountant who worked for the Vancouver Province newspaper. He lived at 994 Denman Street in 1906.

 

Family Background

Samuel Albert Cater was born in Bristol, England on February 18, 1879. His parents were  Albert Arthur Cater (born about 1843 in Maldon, Essex, England) and Mary Jane Hooper (born about 1844 in Honiton, Devon, England).

 

To Canada

Samuel came to Canada about 1903. He settled in Manitoba.

 

Marriage to Kate Webb

On October 10, 1905, in Brandon, Manitoba, Samuel married Kate Eleanor Webb. She was born on October 11, 1871, in Bristol, England.

 

To Vancouver

Samuel first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1905. In addition to his accountancy work, he also became a notary public in 1907.

Kate died in Vancouver on September 4, 1959.

Samuel died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on December 31, 1965.

Samuel and Kate had a son.

 

Archie Hooper Cater

Archie Hooper Cater was born in Vancouver about 1909.

On March 10, 1939, in Vancouver, Archie married Victoria Isobel Thompson. She was born in Vancouver on September 25, 1901. Her parents were Stephen Joseph Thompson and Constance Victoria Clute.

Victoria died in Vancouver on January 8, 1957.

Archie later married Victoria’s sister, Constance Kathleen Thompson. She was born in Vancouver on December 13, 1899. She died in Delta, British Columbia, on January 31, 1982. Archibald was still living at that time.
