William Howard Moore was a sawyer with E.H. Heaps and Company and the Reliance Sash and Door Factory. He lived at 1964 Georgia Street from 1910 to 1913.

He may also have lived at 1974 Georgia Street in 1908 and at 1830 Alberni Street in 1909, although the occupations for the William H. Moore at those addresses in 1908 and 1909 are not related to lumber or sawmills.

William Howard Moore was born in January 1868, in Gananoque, Ontario. His parents were William Howard and Margaret Moore.

On August 29, 1906, in Vancouver, William married Nita Margaret Strange. She was born on January 19, 1876, in Thorold, Ontario. Her father was Theodore Strange (1848-1879). Her mother was Mary Ann Griffiths.

Theodore Strange

Theodore Strange was probably born in England about 1848. He may have fought in the United States Civil War, although he would have been very young at the time. Theodore married Mary Ann Griffiths, and the family were in Winnipeg for a short time. They moved to Green Ridge, Manitoba in 1878. Theodore died in Green Ridge in October 1879.

Mary Ann later married Andrew Davison of Green Ridge, and her children became part of the Davison family.

William and Nita in British Columbia

After William Moore’s marriage to Nita, William worked as a sawyer for a series of lumber-related businesses. He first appeared in the Vancouver directory in 1907.

The family lived at 1964 Georgia Street from 1910 to 1913. By 1921, they were at 4204 Georgia Street in Burnaby, British Columbia. William was a sawyer in a factory.

William and Nita continued to live in Burnaby through the 1930s.

Nita died in Vancouver on January 28, 1940. She was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby. [Some sources indicate that she was buried in the Nanaimo Cemetery in Nanaimo, British Columbia, but it appears that it is another Margaret Moore who associated with the Nanaimo Cemetery. Further details appear in the sources relating to Nita (below).]

William died in Burnaby on December 7, 1953. He was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Burnaby.

William and Nita had the following children.

Dorothy Margaret Moore
