It appears that he served for about 18 months with the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (although he is not in the available R.N.W.M.P. archive records.)

He first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1906. He was living at 1963 Georgia Street, working as a clerk at 1803 Georgia Street, which was the location of Dominion Carbolineum Works. (William Henry Harvey was the operator of this business. More information appears on the page for William Henry Harvey; https://westendvancouver.wordpress.com/biographies-a-m/biographies-h/harvey-william-henry-1845-1933/.)

Charles lived at 1963 Georgia Street until 1912. Sometime around 1909 or 1910 he became a post office clerk. In 1912 he was a clerk with W.H. Walsh.

He never married.
