Herbert William Kent was the general superintendent of the New Westminster and Burrard Inlet Telephone Company. He had the same position with the B.C. Telephone Company.
He was later a manager for the Canadian Boving Company, which made water turbines, centrifugal pumps, and machinery for sawmills and for the pulp and paper industry.
He lived at 1818 Barclay Street in 1905 and at 1884 Haro Street in 1906.
Family Background and Early Life
Herbert William Kent was born on August 3, 1862, in Chatham, Ontario. His parents were Lubin Kent (1819-1907) and Sarah Hamilton Neilson (1829-1931).
In 1881, Herbert was a telegraph operator in Chatham.
To British Columbia
By 1891, Herbert had moved to British Columbia, and he was a telephone company superintendent.
Marriage to Florence Findley
On July 8, 1896, in Vancouver, Herbert married Florence Emily Findley. She was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on July 2, 1873. Her parents were William Henry Findley (1832-1893) and Emma Louise Moore (1837-1899).
Later Life
Herbert William Kent died on March 15, 1919 at 3937 Osler Avenue in Point Grey, British Columbia (later part of Vancouver).
He was buried in Little Lake Cemetery, Peterborough, Ontario.
Florence Kent: Later Life
Florence Kent was living in Vancouver in 1939.
In 1940 she travelled to San Diego, California. According to her immigration document, she was intending to live permanently in the United States. Her last residence in Vancouver had been 2075 Nelson Street.
Florence died in New York on October 25, 1942.
She was buried in Sherwood Cemetery in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island,
