Charles Wilson Saunders was a barber and manager of the Moler Barber College. He lived at 1012 Denman Street from 1916 to 1918.

 

Early Life

Charles Wilson Saunders was born in Pennsylvania in May 1867.

Sometime in the late 1890s he married Mary W. Salmser (sometimes spelled as Selmser). She was born in New York about 1868.

By 1900 Charles and Mary were living in Omaha, Nebraska. Charles was a barber.

In 1910, Charles and Mary were in Spokane, Washington. Charles was working in a barber shop.

 

To Vancouver

By 1911, the Saunders family had arrived in Vancouver. They were living at 612 East Hastings Street.

Charles was the manager of the Moler Barber College at 846 Main Street. (Arthur Bass Moler had founded a barber college in the 1890s, with branches in the United States and Canada. He also wrote a series of books that described his techniques for barbering, hairdressing, chiropody and associated services.)

By 1930, Charles was the manager of the Modern Barber Colleges in San Francisco.

Dorothy Saunders

Dorothy Saunders was born in Pennsylvania on July 21, 1902.

In 1910 and 1911 she was living with her parents.

She married Ray Daniel Hart, who was an advertising salesman. He had been married before, to Lenore Cohrone, an opera singer who used “Lenora Corona” as her professional name.
