Family Background and Early Life

George L. Kipp was born in England on March 23, probably in 1881. According to his death certificate, his full name was “George Lading Kipp.” However, it appears that his original name was George Ludwig Kipp.

George Ludwig Kipp was born in Tottenham, Middlesex, in 1881. His parents were John George Kipp (1859-1935) and Eliza Elizabeth Underwood (1860–1894). John Kipp was a picture frame carver and gilder. John and Eliza were married in Bethnal Green, London, England in 1879.

In 1881 and 1891, George was living with his parents in Tottenham, Middlesex.

On April 11, 1896, he was admitted to the Royal Philanthropic Society Farm School at Redhill, Surrey, England.

George was baptized twice. The first time was on June 6, 1897, at the Royal Philanthropic Farm School. (His second baptism was in Canada in 1905, as noted below.)
