Baker, George Burnard (1868-1944)

George Burnard Baker was a builder and contractor. He lived at 1819 Robson Street from 1907 to 1910.

 

Family Background

George Burnard Baker was born in Cornwall, England on July 1, 1868. His parents were Richard Baker and Alice Burnard.

 

To Canada

George arrived in Canada about 1889.

On January 25, 1893, in Vancouver, George married Elma Sara Campbell. She was born in Maria, Quebec on September 27, 1862. Her parents were Peter C. Campbell and Jane Tourgis.

Elma died in Vancouver on November 24, 1941. She was buried in Forest Lawn Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

George died in Vancouver on October 3, 1944. He was buried in Forest Lawn Burial Park in Burnaby.

George and Elma had the following children.

 

Marjorie Alice Baker

Marjorie Alice Baker was born in Vancouver on January 24, 1895.

In 1916, she received her third-class teaching certificate.

She married Howard Hager Hall, who was a teacher. He was born in Beamsville, Ontario on November 2, 1898. His parents were Charles Edward Hall and Maude Rae McCallum.

Howard and Marjorie were later separated.

Howard died in Victoria, British Columbia on December 1, 1974.

Marjorie died in Vancouver on August 12, 1988.

 

Dorothy Collas Campbell Baker

Dorothy Collas Campbell Baker was born in Vancouver on January 30, 1897.

On July 17, 1918, in Vancouver, she married Edward Gallant, who was a captain in the First Depot Battalion. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on January 4, 1887. His parents were Mark Gallant and Philomena White.

Edward later developed a practice as a chiropractor. He died in Deep Cove, British Columbia, on January 16, 1959.

Dorothy later lived with her sister, Helen, in an apartment on Beach Avenue.

Dorothy died on April 19, 1987, in Vancouver.

 

Helen Burnard Baker

Helen Burnard Baker was born in Vancouver on July 21, 1900.

She became a real estate saleswoman. She never married.

She died in Vancouver on November 18, 1988.
