In 1884, Charles became the curate at Castletown in Durham.

In 1891, Charles and Margaret were in South Bersted, Sussex, England.

It appears that Charles died between 1891 and 1901. Margaret was living with her son, Hugh S. Green, in Plumstead, London, in 1901. She was in Hove, Sussex in 1911.

Cyril Rokeby Green

In 1901, Cyril was attending an agricultural college in Wilmington parish, Kent, England.

He came to Canada about 1905, and he first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1907.

Henderson’s City of Vancouver Directory, 1907, page 476

Henderson’s City of Vancouver Directory, 1907, page 476

On February 9, 1909, in Vancouver, Cyril married Katherine Norah Bradley. She was born in England on October 27, 1871. Her parents were George Henry and Fannie Bradley.

In 1909 and 1910, Cyril and Katherine were at 1682 Burnaby Street. Cyril’s occupation was “nurseryman.”

Henderson’s City of Vancouver and North Vancouver Directory, 1909, page 702

Henderson’s City of Vancouver and North Vancouver Directory, 1909, page 702

From 1911 to 1913, Cyril and Katherine were at 1744 Alberni Street. Cyril was working as gardener.

They lived at 1875 Georgia Street in 1914.

In 1915 Cyril enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to serve in the First World War. In November 1916, he suffered a gunshot wound to his right ankle. He spent five and a half months in hospital, and he was discharged from the military in 1917.

After the war, Cyril returned to work with the City of Vancouver. In 1918, he was at 1967 West 3rd Avenue. By 1919, he was a zoo attendant, and he was living at 1648 Venables Street.

In 1921, Cyril and Katherine were living in Stanley Park, along with their five-year-old daughter, Peggy. Cyril’s occupation was “park caretaker.” He later managed the Stanley Park Zoo.

Katherine died in Vancouver on August 25, 1938. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Cyril later married Nellie Prior Stephens. She was born on April 24, 1891, in Vancouver. Her father was Frederick Brokenshire Stephens (sometimes called “Frederick Brookshire Stephens”) (1861-1905), who was a butcher. Nellie’s mother was Louisa Jane Prior (1861-1947). Nellie had been married before, to Albert Barker (1887-1939), who was the manager of the Stanley Park Pavilion.

After Cyril retired from the zoo, he and Nellie continued to live in the Greater Vancouver area.

Cyril died in Vancouver on April 10, 1963.

Nellie died in Saanichton, British Columbia, on February 23, 1980.

Cyril Rokeby Green and Katherine Norah Bradley had one daughter.

Katherine Margaret (“Peggy”) Green

[This information is tentative.] It appears that Katherine Margaret Green (called “Peggy”) was born in Vancouver on April 21, 1916. In 1921, she was living with her parents in Vancouver.

She later married James Ellis Archer. According to his death certificate, he was born on July 5, 1925, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He worked as a nurse.

Peggy died in Duncan, British Columbia, on May 17, 1993.

James died in Chemainus, British Columbia, on September 5, 1993.

Albert Barker and Nellie Stephens had a daughter.

Beatrice Alice Barker

Beatrice Alice Barker was born in Vancouver on April 15, 1914. She became a registered nurse, and she was later the occupational health nurse for Sears Canada in Burnaby.

On October 28, 1937, in Vancouver, Beatrice married John Warren Lane (often called “Warren”), who was a prison guard. He was born in Okotoks, Alberta, on November 8, 1912. His father was Herbert George Land (1875-1936), who was a plumber. John’s mother was Ellen Packwood Warren (1874-1961).

In 1963, Beatrice and Warren were living in Haney, British Columbia. They later lived on Pender Island.

John died in Saanichton, British Columbia on July 13, 1987.

Beatrice died on July 9, 2002, probably in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia.

She was the occupational health nurse for Sears when they opened their retail store/warehouse in Burnaby. When she retired from there, she started teaching occupational first aid and continued to do so after they retired to their Pender Island property. In 1979 she became a Serving Sister of the Order of St. John, in recognition of her many years of teaching occupational first aid and her volunteer work. She was always a very busy person and involved in many clubs and charities throughout her life. We would like to extend our many thanks to ALL the staff at Mayfair Manor in Port Coquitlam and to her physician, Dr. C. Chen. Donations in her memory may be made to Pender Island Ambulance-Health Care Society or to a charity of your choice. There was a memorial gathering for her on Wednesday July 17, 2002 at the Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam.”
