Walter Grundy was a commercial traveller for the E.A. Morris tobacco company. He lived at 1837 Morton Avenue in 1912.

Walter Grundy was born on July 12, 1873 (although some sources say June 12, 1876), in Liverpool, England. His father was Alfred Grundy, who was a tobacconist in Liverpool. Walter’s mother was Mary Ann Beddell.

Walter was baptized at St Mary the Virgin in the District of West Derby on July 13, 1873.

In 1881, he was living with his parents and going to school.

In 1891, he was still living with his parents. He was working as a draper’s assistant.

On August 24, 1898, at Christ Church, Claughton-cum-Grange, Cheshire, Walter married Clara Hilton Jones. She was born on June 8, 1868, in Liverpool. Her father was Robert Jones. Her mother was Hannah Brundale. Clara may have worked as a nurse for some time.

Walter and Clara lived in the Liverpool area until they moved to Canada in 1911.

By the time of the 1911 Canada census, Walter and Clara were lodging with Charles Robinson at 1246 Robson Street in Vancouver.

In the 1912 Vancouver directory, Walter was at 1837 Morton Avenue. He was working for the E.A. Morris tobacco.

Walter appeared at the following addresses in Vancouver

1912 1837 Morton Avenue
1913 801 Bidwell Street
1914 and 1915 No listing under names
1916 1128B, West Hastings Street
1917 and 1918 Probably Number 310, 1209 Jervis Street (full name not given in 1917)
1919 to 1921 No listing under names (possibly in Regina, Saskatchewan)
1922 to 1927 Number 8, 1472 Charles Street
1928 South side, Bellevue, near 26th Avenue, West Vancouver
1929 and 1930 1944 Marine Drive, West Vancouver
1931 and 1932 1870 Marine Drive, West Vancouver
1933 187 28th Avenue, West Vancouver

Throughout his working life, Walter was a travelling salesman.

In 1916, he was with in business briefly with Harold George Beddeson (1872- 1941) (who lived at 1919 Beach Avenue from 1905 to 1908).

Walter disappeared from the Vancouver directories from 1919 to 1921. He and Clara were in Regina, Saskatchewan at the time of the 1921 Canada census; perhaps they were in Regina in 1919 and 1920 as well.

By 1922, Walter and Clara were back in Vancouver, and Walter was again working as a travelling salesman.

From 1926 to 1928 he was with the Hudson’s Bay Company.

In 1929, he was with Benson and Hedges, a tobacco company.

In 1932 and 1933, he was with Davis-White, a wholesale toy company.

Walter died in North Vancouver, British Columbia, on July 11, 1933. He was buried in Capilano View Cemetery in West Vancouver, British Columbia.

Clara continued to live in the Vancouver area through the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. She died in West Vancouver on May 13, 1960. He was buried in Capilano View Cemetery in West Vancouver.

It appears that Walter and Clara did not have any children.
