Jacob Dobrin was a life insurance agent. He lived at 786 Gilford Street in 1919.

Jacob Dobrin was born about 1889 in New York City. His father was Aaron Dobrin. His mother was Ruth Steinkritzer.

On July 15, 1915, in Victoria, British Columbia, Jacob married Ethel Belle Waxstock. She was born in Victoria on January 5, 1894. Her father was Abraham Isaac Waxstock (1870-1947). Her mother was Minnie Philo (1870-1919).

Jacob first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1917.

He lived at the following addresses in Vancouver.

In 1937, Jacob and Ethel went to Los Angeles, on their way to start a month-long sailing trip to Hawaii and the South Pacific.

In 1940, Jacob and Ethel were living in Los Angeles, California. Jacob was an insurance broker.

Ethel died in Seattle on February 14, 1942.

Jacob died in Seattle on November 1, 1951.

Justus Herman Dobrin

Justus Herman Dobrin was born in Canada, probably in Vancouver, on June 2, 1916.

In 1920 and 1930 he was living with his parents.

On May 20, 1937, in Seattle, he married Yvonne Falcones. She was born in North Dakota, about 1921.

In 1940, Justus and Yvonne were living in Seattle, along with their two-year-old son, Michael Jay Dobrin.

Justus died in Santa Cruz, California, on November 30, 1963.

 

Minna Eloise Dobrin

Minna Eloise Dobrin was born in Canada, probably in Vancouver, about 1919.

In 1920 and 1930 she was living with her parents.

 

June Dobrin

June Dobrin was born in Washington State, probably in Seattle, about 1924.

In 1930 and 1940 she was living with her parents.

“Dobrin’s Death Laid To Heart Attack,” Medford Mail Tribune, Medford, Oregon; November 4, 1951, page 24: “Seattle, Nov. 3 (U.R) An autopsy today revealed that Jacob Dobrin, 62-year-old Seattle Insurance broker wanted in Eugene, Ore., on a charge of embezzling $11,253.95, died of a heart attack. Coroner John P. Brill Jr., said the cause of death definitely was a heart attack and that there was no evidence of foul play. Dobrin was found in a hotel room here yesterday. He had registered there under the name of Rogers [Roger] Sanders, but his true name was disclosed by papers on his body.”

“Well known in this city, and particularly among the Jewish population, after a residence of twenty-eight years in Victoria, Mrs. Minnie Waxstock, wife of Mr. I. Waxstock, of 1115 Princess Avenue, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday at the age of 49.

The charitable acts of Mrs. Waxstock leave many friends to mourn her passing. She was born in Warsaw, and her father, Rabbi Philo, was for many years in this city. Coming to Victoria, Mrs. Waxstock opened up in the millinery business, continuing this for many years. The deceased lady leaves her husband and one daughter, Regina, here, a daughter in Vancouver, and a son in Everett.

The funeral will take place from the B.C. Funeral Chapel on Wednesday at 2:30. Services will be conducted by Dr. Freelander and interment will take place in the Jewish cemetery.”
