Arthur Jefferd was a clerk. He lived at 1913 Beach Avenue in 1907, at 1834 Pendrell Street in 1908, and at 1837 Morton Avenue in 1909.

Arthur Jefferd was born in Stoke Damerel, Devonshire, on February 19, 1859. His parents were John Harris Jefferd and Jane Ashford.

John Harris Jefferd was a cement manufacturer. He was born in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, in 1822.

In 1852 John was in business as a stone merchant and lime burner.

Arthur Jefferd: Early Life and Travel to Canada

In 1861, Arthur was living with his parents at Stoke Damerel, Devonshire.

In 1871 he was a student, living with Nicholas Haly, who was the curate of Harford in South Devon.

In 1881 Arthur was a medical student, living with the family of John H. Ashford in Loxbear, Devon. Also in 1881, he was one of the executors of his mother’s estate.

He travelled to Canada about 1882.

 

Life in Canada

Sometime after arriving in Canada, Arthur settled near Moose Jaw (then in the North-West Territories, and later in the Province of Saskatchewan.)

In 1887, Arthur became a justice of the peace.

Arthur had been a member of the Anglican Church in his earlier years. On March 29, 1888, in Regina, North-West Territories, he became a Roman Catholic.

On May 1, 1888, in Regina, he married Margaret Wilson. She was born in England on August 2, 1860. Margaret’s father was Rev. Richard Wilson (1811-1890).

Dorothy Mary Jefferd was born on June 21, 1889, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (then in the North-West Territories).

She never married.

She became a librarian.

Arthur Harris Jefferd

Arthur Harris Jefferd was born on February 19, 1891, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (then in the North-West Territories).

For a time, he worked as a clerk for the B.C. Electric Company.

On May 13, 1920, in Vancouver, he married Ernestine Alecia Smith. She was born in London, England, on September 15, 1891. Her parents were Alfred Althorpe Smith and Alecia Hamilton Stanley.

Arthur later worked as a painter. He was a long-time member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. He served as the honorary hydrographer, and he became an honorary life member.

Ernestine also became an honorary life member of the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. She died in Vancouver on November 17, 1960.

Arthur died in Vancouver on February 2, 1978. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Cecil Wilson Jefferd

Cecil Wilson Jefferd was born on January 6, 1893, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (then in the North-West Territories).

He worked as a draftsman.

On March 18, 1915, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to serve during the First World War.

He died of a gunshot wound on November 15, 1916. He was buried in Bruay Communal Cemetery Extension in Bruay-la-Buissiere, France.

 

Eric Charles Jefferd

Eric Charles Jefferd was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on December 16, 1895. No further information is available for him.
