Fleming, Hugh Lindsay (1881-1961)

Hugh Lindsay Fleming was a contractor. He lived at 1048 Denman Street in 1913 and 1914, and at 1054 Denman Street in 1915 and 1916.

He did not appear in the Vancouver directories before 1913 or after 1916.

 

Early Life

Hugh Lindsay Fleming was born on March 24, 1881, in Tranent, Scotland. His parents were Hugh Philp Fleming and Mary Lindsay.

 

To New York

Hugh was living in Manhattan, New York in 1910. He was working as a chauffeur for a private family.

 

Short Time in Vancouver

Hugh was in the Vancouver directories from 1913 to 1916. After 1916, he did not appear in the directories.

For a time he lived in Three Hills, Alberta.

 

To United States

In 1923, Hugh moved to the United States.

In 1924, he declared his intention to become a naturalized United States citizen. According to the declaration document, his last foreign residence was Three Hills, Alberta. He was married to Ethel, who was born in South Shields, England. Ethel was living in England in 1924.

On November 24, 1926, in Portland, Oregon, Hugh married Alice M. Irwin. She was born on May 4, 1881 in Jonesville, Michigan.

In 1930, Hugh and Alice were living in Portland.

In 1931, he petitioned to become a naturalized United States citizen.

Hugh had several siblings, some of whom lived in Vancouver for a time.

 

Linnie Agnes Fleming

Linnie Agnes Fleming was born in Prestonpans, Scotland, on June 4, 1883.

On July 21, 1914, in Vancouver, she married John Purse. He was born in Paisley, Scotland, on July 7, 1882.

John died in North Vancouver on January 6, 1953. He was buried in Capilano View Cemetery in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Linnie died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on February 18, 1958.

 

Stanley Philp Fleming

Stanley Philp Fleming was born on September 13, 1888, in Edinburgh, Scotland.

He worked as an accountant. He moved to Seattle, Washington, and he became a United States citizen.

During the First World War, he enrolled with the United States military.

On September 5, 1929, in Thurston County, Washington, he married Helen Swope, who was born in Wisconsin about 1896.

By 1940, he was the president of a steamship company. He and Helen were living in Portland, Oregon,

By 1958, Stanley was living in San Diego, California. He died in San Diego on November 15, 1963.

 

Mary Lindsay Fleming

Mary Lindsay Fleming was born on September 23, 1890, in Scotland.

She married Charles Whitehead Addison, who worked for a stevedoring company. He was born in Scotland on February 12, 1878. He died on September 27, 1929.

Mary died in Vancouver on October 29, 1976.

 

Fred William Fleming

Fred William Fleming was born in Scotland about 1884.

He was married to Dorothy, and he was living in Three Hills, Alberta, in 1928 and 1934.

He was living in Calgary, Alberta, in 1958.
