Robert Marshall was a fruit dealer who also worked as a painter, contractor and farmer. He lived near Stanley Park Bridge from 1898 to 1906. The Vancouver directories listed his address as 650 Chilco Street from 1903 to 1906.

It appears that he was living in Whatcom County, Washington in 1889.

Robert married Lina Townsend, who was born Eveline Belinda Townsend on July 10, 1851 in New York State. Her parents were Orville B. Townsend (1823-1883) and Persina Van Nortwick (1823-1883).

By 1891, Robert and Lina were in New Westminster, British Columbia, along with two daughters and one son. According to the 1891 Canada census, Robert was a farmer.

In 1898, Robert was a fruit dealer near the bridge at Stanley Park in Vancouver.

No further information is available for Robert.

Robert and Lina had the following children.

Rose Marshall

Rose Marshall was born in the United States about 1879.

In 1891 she was living with her parents in New Westminster, British Columbia.

No further information is available for her.

Bertha Marshall

Bertha Marshall was born on March 17, 1887, in North Hector, Schuyler County, New York (although some sources say she was born in New Westminster, British Columbia). (It appears that her actual father was Francis Milliman, not Robert Marshall.)

In 1891, she was living with her parents in New Westminster; in 1901, they were in Vancouver.

On December 6, 1905, in Vancouver, she married Charles William McAllister, who was a manufacturer. He was born in Whitby, Ontario, on April 3, 1879. His parents were Archibald McAllister (1849-1944) and Emily Danford (1855-1928 [or 1929]).

In 1911 and 1921, Charles and Bertha were living in Victoria, British Columbia. Charles was an ice cream manufacturer.

By 1941 they were in Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Charles died in Nanaimo on May 21, 1955.

Bertha died in Victoria on October 13, 1988.

George Merriam Marshall

George Merriam Marshall was born in New Westminster, British Columbia on January 2, 1890.

In 1891 and 1901 he was living with his parents.

In July 1905, he was a deckhand on the S.S. Ramona, which often sailed on the lower Fraser River.

Minnie Marshall

Minnie Marshall was born in New Westminster, British Columbia on October 22, 1894.

In 1901, she was living with her parents in Vancouver.

In 1910, she and her parents were in Kirkland, Washington State.

On October 22, 1913, in Victoria, British Columbia, she married Melbourne Bodfish Joseph Evans, who described himself as a druggist. He was born in Camden, New Jersey on June 29, 1895. His parents were Joseph H. Evans and Francis Sweiger.

In 1900, Melbourne and his family had been in Norristown, Pennsylvania. In 1910 they were living at 532 Market Street in Portland, Oregon.

In 1911 and 1912, a young man named Melville Evans was frequently in legal trouble. (According to one news report, his parents lived at 532 Market Street in Portland, so this appears to be the same person who married Minnie Marshall.)

By 1920, Minnie was living with her parents in Seattle, Washington. The 1920 United States census listed her as “single.”

Melbourne Evans went through a marriage ceremony with Loretta May Godfrey in Utica, New York, on May 22, 1922.

Minnie died on March 29, 1923 in Fort Steilacoom, Pierce County, Washington. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver. Her death certificate indicated that she was married to “Joseph Evans.”

Melbourne went through a marriage ceremony with Charlotte Pattner in Buffalo, New York, on May 15, 1924.

Melbourne and Charlotte later lived in Cleveland, Ohio. Melbourne died in Cleveland on March 15, 1939.
