Castle Prentice Moss was an engineer. He lived at 1849 Robson Street in 1908.

Castle Prentice Moss (sometimes called “Prentice Moss”) was born in Arlington, Massachusetts, on June 11, 1876. His father was Charles Eugene Moss (1843-1926), who was a lawyer and judge in Kansas City, Missouri. Castle’s mother was Ida Lucretia Green (1848-1913).

Castle’s schooling included two years in high school in Kansas City, Missouri, and one year at the University of Dresden in Germany.

By 1903, he was living in New Westminster, British Columbia. He was a consulting engineer on a series of engineering projects, including several large bridges in British Columbia.

In September 1903, the St. Louis Republic announced his upcoming marriage to Laura Lewis.

Castle’s and Laura’s wedding was in New Westminster on November 18, 1903. Laura Catherine Lewis was born in New Westminster on March 8, 1884. Her father was William Reid Lewis (1825-1890), who operated a stage line between New Westminster and Burrard Inlet.

Laura’s mother was Clara Elizabeth Freese (1857-1937).

By 1921 Castle and Laura were in New Westminster.

At some point in the 1920s, Castle and Laura were divorced. Laura continued to live in British Columbia until the 1950s. She died in Coquitlam, British Columbia, on July 11, 1957. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Second Marriage to Alberta Hammond Williams

In 1930, Castle was in Mullica, New Jersey, with his wife, Alberta. It appears that she was Alberta Hammond Williams, who was born in Missouri on June 10, 1889. Her parents were Richard C. Williams and Miriam Rhoda Hammond.

By 1935, Castle was living in Elwood, New Jersey. He was involved in the design of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.

By 1940, he was in East Rockaway, New York, living with Alberta and their daughter, Nola Moss, who was born in New Jersey about 1926.

Castle died in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on February 7, 1955.

It appears that Alberta died in Michigan in May 1982.

 

Castle and Laura had the following children.

 

Lewis Moss

Lewis Moss was born in British Columbia, possibly in Vancouver, in October 1904.

In 1911 and 1921, he was living with his parents.

In 1927, he travelled to New York City to study at Columbia University.

It appears that he died on July 24, 1928, and that he was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Charles Benton Moss

Charles Benton Moss was born in British Columbia, possibly in Vancouver, on February 27, 1907.

He died in Vancouver on September 11, 1913. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Joseph Marion Moss

Joseph Marion Moss was born in Vancouver on April 28, 1909.

He worked in the field of insurance and corporate investment.

On July 17, 1937, in New Westminster, British Columbia, he married Janey Graham Parker, who was a university registrar. She was born in Montclair, New Jersey on December 23, 1909. Her father was William M. Parker. Her mother was Elizabeth Doyle.

Janey died in Vancouver on September 11, 1956. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Joseph later married Grace Darling.

Joseph died in Vancouver on March 31, 1990. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Marcia Castle Moss

Marcia Castle Moss was born in Vancouver on February 12, 1912. She worked as a stenographer for an automobile dealer.

Marcie died in Vancouver on September 23, 1938. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Catherine Elizabeth Moss

Catherine Elizabeth Moss was born in Vancouver on February 19, 1914.

On November 24, 1938, in New Westminster, British Columbia, she married Sigurd Hanson, who was a logger. He was born on June 29, 1902, in Nastly (or Rognan), Norway. His father was Hans Isakson. His mother was Johanna Olsen.

Sigurd died in Delta, British Columbia, on April 12, 1991.

Catherine died in Delta on February 18, 1995.
