Thomas Foster Teevan was born in Liverpool, England on July 15, 1888. His parents were James Teevan (1848-1917) and Mary Jane Foster (or Forster) (1851-1930). (One source gives her surname as “Robinson.”).

James and Mary were married in Liverpool on August 12, 1877.

In 1891 and 1901, Thomas was living with his parents in Liverpool.

In 1911, he sailed on the Empress of Britain from Liverpool to Saint John, New Brunswick. He was on his way to Hamilton, Ontario.

Service during First World War

On September 1, 1915, in Victoria, British Columbia, he signed his attestation papers to serve with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. He served in France and England.

In October 1917, he and several other servicemen received burns on their hands and face when a fire broke out in their bivouac. He later recovered.

Marriage to Ethel

While Thomas was still in the military forces, he received permission to marry Ethel Annie Elizabeth Theeuf. She was born on October 18, 1892, probably in Brixton, London.

After the War: Return to Vancouver

Thomas was discharged from the military forces on October 18, 1919, during the general demobilization at the end of the war.

By 1920, he and Ethel were in Vancouver. Thomas was a clerk with the Royal Bank of Canada, which had merged with the Quebec Bank in January 1917.

He was a member of Cascade Lodge, Number 12, A.F. & A.M. (Ancient Free and Accepted Masons).

He was also a member and an official of the Terminal City Lawn Bowling Club, which he joined in 1920.

Although he was retired briefly after he left the Royal Bank, by 1952 he had become a clerk with Montreal Trust Company.

He died in Vancouver on January 15, 1957.

Ethel died in West Vancouver, British Columbia on September 18, 1985.

James Theeuf Teevan

James Theeuf Teevan was born in Vancouver on April 9, 1923.

He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1946, and he became an engineer.

He married Alexina Mary Joyce Finlayson.

He died in Vancouver on September 6, 1997.

Thomas’s Brother: John Charles Teevan

Thomas had a brother named John Charles Teevan, who lived in Evanston, Illinois. John was an accountant, lawyer and law professor.
