William West Symons was an assistant bank manager with the Bank of Montreal. He lived at 2022 Haro Street in 1919 and perhaps for part of 1920, and at 1949 Barclay Street in 1920 and 1921.

 

Early Life

William West Symons was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on December 7, 1880. His parents were John Hughes Symons and Annie Barbara Rudolf.

 

Marriage to Adelaide Ritchie

William married Adelaide Albro Ritchie. She was born in Halifax on April 19, 1884. Her father was Joseph Norman Ritchie (1834-1904), a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, and a half-brother of Chief Justice William Johnstone Ritchie of the Supreme Court of Canada.

In 1907 and 1911 William and Adelaide were in Sydney, Nova Scotia. William was an accountant with the Bank of Montreal. In 1913, they were in Quebec City.

 

To Vancouver

William first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1919. He lived at 2022 Haro Street in 1919 and perhaps for part of 1920, and at 1949 Barclay Street in 1920 and 1921.

Later Career

William later worked for the Bank of Montreal in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Port Arthur, Ontario. He became a branch manager in Winnipeg.

After William retired in 1938, he and Adelaide moved to Vancouver.

William died in Vancouver on January 23, 1956.

Adelaide died in Vancouver on November 28, 1966.

William and Adelaide had the following children.

 

John Ritchie Symons

John Ritchie Symons was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, on November 27, 1909.

He never married.

In the late 1930s he was working for J. Walter Thompson Company Limited.

In 1939 he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force to serve during the Second World War.

On March 26, 1940, in Vancouver, she married John Rouleau Grubbe. He was born in New Denver, British Columbia, on December 18, 1912. His parents were Eustace Haselwood Grubbe (1876-1951) and Bertha Marie Rouleau (1882-1971).
