Cartwright, Helena Mary (1872-1942)

Helena Mary Cartwright was the widow of George Cartwright. She lived at 1849 Robson Street in 1910.

She was born in Balsall, Warwickshire, England on February 3, 1872. Her father was Robert Moseley (born about 1832); her mother was Sarah Parr (sometimes spelled Pears, Pierce, or Pares) (1830-1915).

Helena married George Cartwright in Kings Norton, England in late 1899. George was a butler in a private residence. George and Helena had a daughter (also called Helena), who was born in 1900 in Alcester district, Warwickshire.

George Cartwright died in late 1900. Shortly afterward, Helena and her young daughter came to Canada. She generally referred to herself as the widow of “John” Cartwright.

She operated a boarding house at 551 Richards Street from 1906 to 1909. In 1910, she moved to 1849 Robson Street, where she continued to run a boarding house.

On September 6, 1910, in Vancouver, Helena married John Gall Glashan. He was a dry goods salesman, who gave his address as 551 Richards Street (Helena’s former residence). He was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on February 21, 1869 (or 1870). His parents were Frederick Glashan and Margaret Gall, who were both born in Scotland.

John Glashan continued to live in Vancouver until he died on May 1, 1922. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Helena was living in Comox, British Columbia, when she died on March 29, 1942. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

George Cartwright and Helena Mary Moseley had one child.

Helena was born in 1900 in Alcester district, Warwickshire. She was living in Headquarters, British Columbia, in 1933 and 1942.

Charles Frederick Glashan

Charles was born in British Columbia on December 29, 1915. He was a student in high school in Headquarters, British Columbia, when he died on March 11, 1933.
