Eric Thomson was a men’s furnishings salesman. He lived at 1101 Gilford Street in 1918 and at 1872 Pendrell Street in 1920.

 

Family Background

Eric Thomson was born in Grantown, Scotland on November 19, 1885. (Eric was sometimes called “Tommy Thomson.”) His parents were John Thomson and Marie L’Estrange.

 

To Canada

Eric travelled to Canada in 1913.

He first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1917. He was living at 1021 Nelson Street, and he was working as a salesman with T.B. Cuthbertson and Company.

Marriage to Jean Brown

On September 3, 1917, in Vancouver, Eric married Jean Brown. She was born in Motherwell, Scotland, on December 30, 1892. Her parents were John Brown and Agnes Dunlop (one source says her name was Agnes Drinnen). John Brown worked as a timber inspector.

 

Eric’s Working Career

By 1920, Eric was a salesman with Herbert Roos, who had a men’s furnishing store at 759 Granville Street.

By 1923, he was back with T.B. Cuthbertson.

By 1925, Eric and Jean were in Victoria, British Columbia. Eric was a salesman with Gordon Ellis, a men’s furnishings store in Victoria.

Eric later worked in the men’s furnishings department at Spencer’s department store in Victoria.

Eric died in Victoria on October 9, 1948.

Jean later married Thomas Hocking, who was a farmer. He was born in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota on November 26, 1882.

Thomas died in Victoria on July 8, 1970.

Jean died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 27, 1985.

Eric and Jean had a son.

 

George Gordon Thomson

George Gordon Thomson was born in Vancouver on May 3, 1919. (He was often called “Gordon.”)

He married Freda Raits.

In 1948, he was living in Ottawa, Ontario.

Gordon and Freda later lived in West Vancouver, British Columbia.

Gordon died in North Vancouver on August 17, 1987.
