Denniston, Richard (1873-1937)

Richard Denniston was an engineer. He lived at 1800 Nelson Street from 1918 or 1919 to 1922 and at 1808 Nelson Street from 1923 to 1925.

Richard Denniston was born about 1873 in San Francisco. His father was Richard Denniston (about 1827-1872), who was a plumber’s employee in 1870. Richard Denniston Junior’s mother was Mary Joan Godfray (born in New York about 1843).

In 1901, Richard appeared in the Canadian census as an assistant engineer on the steamship White Horse.

On October 30, 1905, in Vancouver, Richard married Annie Elizabeth Upsdell Phillips. She was born in April 1880 in Esquimalt, British Columbia. Her father was Richard Phillips (about 1833-1907), who was a storehouse employee at the dockyard in Esquimalt. Annie’s mother was Elizabeth Upsdell (about 1852-1880).

Richard Denniston appeared at the following addresses in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, from 1913 to 1937.

Richard worked as an engineer in Vancouver through the 1920s and 1930s.

In late 1936, Richard and Annie moved to the Alkazar Apartments in Victoria, British Columbia.

Richard died in Victoria on February 1, 1937. He was buried in Colwood Burial Park in Colwood, British Columbia.

Annie died in Essondale, British Columbia, on March 4, 1945. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Richard and Annie did not have any children.
