Norton, Caroline Winifred (1871-1931)

Caroline Winifred Norton was the wife of Abraham Norton. It appears that she was at 1174 Denman Street in 1912.

Early Life

Caroline Winifred Norton was born in 1871 in Keokuk County, Iowa. Her parents were James Bremner (1831-1887) and Abigail Clark Freeman (1828-1915).

In 1880, Caroline was living with her parents near Lynden, Washington State.

On September 3, 1890, in King County, Washington, she married Abraham Duane Norton, who was a laborer in a saw mill. He was born in Wisconsin in July 1864.

To Vancouver

In 1911 and 1912, Winifred was in Vancouver.

The 1911 Vancouver directory described her as the widow of Abraham. She was living at 1464 West Fifth Avenue. (It appears that Abraham and Winifred may have been divorced or separated. On November 11, 1911, in Vancouver, Abraham married Carrie Lin Stewart.)

In 1912, Caroline was simply “Mrs. Norton,” living at 1174 Denman Street.

In 1915, Winifred’s mother, Abigail, died in Powell River, British Columbia.

By 1930, Winifred and Abraham were in Belleview, Washington. Abraham was working as a laborer in the logging business. Their adopted son, John W. Norton, was living with them. He was born in Canada about 1921.

Caroline died in Port Angeles, Washington State, on July 10, 1931.

Abraham died in Port Angeles on February 22, 1958.

Abraham and Winifred had a son named Horace William Norton.

Horace William Norton

Horace William Norton was born in Delta, Washington, on August 16, 1891. In 1917, he registered with the United States military draft system.

On December 26, 1912, he married Ethel Rowena Doran. She was born in Ontario on September 14, 1890. Her parents were John Doran and Francis Palmer.

Horace died in Port Angeles, Washington, on September 18, 1954.

Ethel died in Port Angeles on August 10, 1965.

Abraham and Winifred also adopted a son, John W. Norton.

John W. Norton

John W. Norton was born in Canada about 1921. In 1930, he was living with his parents in Belleview, Washington.

In 1958, he was a captain in the U. S. Air Force at Mountain Home, Idaho.
