MacAdam, John Vincent (1844-1918) and MacAdam, Vincent Leo (1880-1951)

John Vincent MacAdam and his son, Vincent Leo MacAdam, were in the road construction business. They lived at 2075 Nelson Street from 1916 to 1918.

 

John Vincent MacAdam

John Vincent MacAdam was born on December 15, 1844, in Prince Edward Island. (One source says that he was born on September 15, 1843, and baptized on October 28, 1843.) John’s father was Vincent MacAdam (1812-1900). John’s mother was Margaret McDonald (born about 1816).

By the 1860s, the family was living in Chicago, Illinois, where John had a road paving business.

On March 17, 1866, in Chicago, John married Ellen (Nellie) Williamson, who was born about 1847 in Quebec. Nellie died on March 9, 1892, in Chicago. (John and Nellie had several children, including Vincent Leo MacAdam, who was born in Chicago on February 29, 1880.)

John and Vincent first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1912, along with their general contracting company.

After first staying in the Hotel Vancouver in 1912, John moved to the Hotel Morris in 1913.

In 1913 and 1914, John was at 1026 West 14th Avenue, along with his son, Vincent and his family.

In 1915, John moved to 2075 Nelson Street, along with Vincent and his family.

John died in Vancouver on September 29, 1918. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

 

Vincent Leo MacAdam

Vincent married Georgia Beatrice Galbraith in Seattle, Washington on October 19, 1908. Georgia was born in Nebraska in 1884. Vincent and Georgia were living in Seattle in 1910.

By 1912, they were at 2456 West Third Avenue in Vancouver.

In 1914, Vincent and Georgia appeared in the Vancouver Social Register and Club Directory. They were living at 1026 West 14th Avenue.

From 1915 to 1917, they were at 2075 Nelson Street, along with Vincent’s father, John.

By 1917, Vincent and Georgia were in Seattle. When Vincent registered with the United States military system in 1917, his home address was 1729 17th Avenue in Seattle. The family remained in Seattle throughout the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. Vincent continued to operate a road contracting business for most of that time.

In 1942, Vincent registered with the United States military system. He was living at 2306 North 11th Avenue in Seattle.

Vincent died in Seattle on January 14, 1951. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.

Georgia died in Seattle in 1961. She was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Seattle.
