Grant , John Charles (1860-1935)

John Charles Grant operated a confectionery on Beach Avenue from about 1900 to 1905. In the Vancouver directories from 1903 to 1905, he was at 1855 Beach Avenue. (He was probably at the same location in 1901 and 1902.)

John Charles Grant was born in England on January 13, 1860 (or 1861).

In the third quarter of 1887, in Brentford, Middlesex, England , John married Mary Rebecca Keener. She was born on April 28, 1860 (some sources say 1858 or 1859), in Bere Alston, Devon. Her father was probably William Hill Keener (1818-1888). Her mother was probably Elizabeth Southcombe (about 1828-possibly 1884).

In 1891, John and Mary were living in on Shakespeare Road in Acton, Middlesex. John was employed as a milk carrier.

They arrived in Canada about 1898. John operated a confectionery on Beach Avenue from about 1900 to 1905. The Vancouver directory listed him at 1855 Beach Avenue from 1903 to 1905 (although he was probably at the same address from 1900 to 1902).

From 1906 to 1919, it is not clear where John and Mary were living.

From about 1920 to 1926, John and Mary were at 672 Kingsway. John was operating a confectionery.

By 1927, John and Mary were at 1259 Kingsway.

Mary died in South Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 17, 1928. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

In 1929 and 1930, John had a confectionery at 302 West Broadway.

John died in West Vancouver, British Columbia, on October 11, 1935. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

It appears that John and Mary did not have any children.
