Guest, Charles William (1873-1956)

Charles William Guest was a broker who lived at 1919 Beach Avenue in 1903 and 1904.

According to the 1901 Canada census, he was born in England on December 13, 1873, and he arrived in Canada in 1899.

By 1900, he was the president of the British Columbia Stationery Company at 407 Cordova Street.

In the 1901 Canada census, Charles appeared in the household of Richard Angus, who lived at 1919 Beach Avenue from about 1898 to 1904.

In the 1903 and 1904 Vancouver directories, Charles was at 1919 Beach Avenue. In 1903, he was working as a broker at 405 Cordova Street.

In 1905 and 1906, he was a clerk with Canadian Fairbanks Company, a machinery and mill supply company, which was at 153 West Hastings Street in 1905 and at 101 Water Street in 1906.

In 1905 and 1906, Charles was living at 1675 Burnaby Street, which was the residence of Archibald Rowan of the Colonial Portable House Company.

By 1915, Charles was living in England.

In late 1915, in Kings Norton, Worcestershire, he married Kate Eleanor Gordon Cardo. Kate was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire in 1877. Her parents were Joseph Cardo (1832–1914) and Emily Ann Challingsworth (1843–1911).

Kate died in Birmingham on April 15, 1925.

In the first quarter of 1926, Charles married Alice Mabel Smith. She was born in England on March 10, 1877.

Charles died sometime after 1943, perhaps in 1956.

Gordon Cardo Guest

Gordon Cardo Guest was born in 1918 in Kings Norton, Warwickshire.

He worked as a solicitor’s clerk.

During the Second World War, he served as a lieutenant with the British military forces. He died in Greece on November 14, 1943. He was buried at Leros War Cemetery in Greece.
