Kerr, Robert (1874-1957)

Robert Kerr was a carpenter. He lived at 1917 Pendrell Street in 1904.

 

Early Life

Robert Kerr was born in Tara, near Owen Sound, Ontario, on June 7, 1874. His parents were George Kerr and Julia Ann Cairns. George Kerr was a farmer.

Robert lived with his parents until after 1891.

 

To Vancouver

By 1901, Robert was in Vancouver.

On July 23, 1901, in Vancouver, he married Margaret Smith. She was born near Owen Sound, Ontario, on February 1, 1869 (although some sources say 1876). Her parents were Alexander Smith and Mary McLeod.

During their early years in Vancouver, Robert and Margaret lived at the following addresses.

The family later lived at 1564 West 66th Avenue for many years.

Margaret died in Vancouver on May 20, 1955. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Robert died in Vancouver on January 13, 1957. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

George Alexander Kerr

George Alexander Kerr was born in Vancouver on July 29, 1903.

He worked as a shingle sawyer.

On October 24, 1925, in Vancouver, he married Vera May Housley. She was born on November 10, 1906. Her parents were Charles J. Housley and Anna Tiber.

In 1959, George and Vera became naturalized United States citizens.

George died in San Diego, California on November 7, 1983.

Vera died in Portland, Oregon, on February 28, 2004.

 

Verona May Kerr

Verona May Kerr was born in Vancouver on March 6, 1905.

On September 2, 1933, in Vancouver, Verona married Walter Donville Sheepwash, a steam engineer who was a widower. He was born in Minesing, Ontario on December 23, 1889. His parents were Nathaniel William Sheepwash and Elizabeth Young.

Walter had served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. On July 29, 1925, in Victoria, British Columbia, he married Olive Jones, who was born in 1897 in Wales. Her parents were Richard Jones and Ann Amelia Cook Toby. Olive died in Victoria on August 22, 1927.

Walter and Verona lived near Chilliwack, British Columbia, for about 30 years.

Walter died in Campbell River, British Columbia, on January 18, 1975. He was buried in Little Mountain Cemetery in Chilliwack.

Verona died in Duncan, British Columbia, on January 2, 1995. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Duncan.

 

Mary Edna Kerr

Mary Edna Kerr was born in Vancouver in September 1908.

She never married.

She worked for Smith, Davidson & Wright Wholesale Stationery Company for 41 years.

She died in Vancouver on July 30, 2003.

She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Mrs. Kerr was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Kerr, in 1983. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mervyn and Nita Kerr of Portland; brother and sister-in-law Melville and Doris Housley of Sechelt, British Columbia; sister Victoria Duncan of Richmond, British Columbia; grandchildren David and Jeffrey; and eight great-grandchildren.

A family gathering will be held in Portland. A private cremation is planned.

A retired steam engineer, Mr. Sheepwash was born on December 23, 1889, in Barrie, Simcoe County, Ontario. He had lived in this area for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife Verona; two daughters, Mrs. C. H. (Marilyn) Lindenback, Campbell River, and Mrs. W.
