William Hawkes was a groom with the Vancouver Horse Show Association. He lived at 1850 Alberni Street in 1916.

No further conclusive information is available for him.

He might have been one of the following men named William Hawkes.

 

William Hawkes

William Hawkes was born in Southampton, England, on September 27, 1872.

He worked as a labourer.

On June 5, 1917, in Victoria, British Columbia, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force to serve during the First World War. His address was: Standard Hotel, San Francisco, California.

He was not married. On one of his enlistment forms, he said that both of his parents were no longer living. However, in another form he assigned his pay to his mother, Mrs. Sarah Hawkes, 178 Derby Road, Southampton.

William served for a time with the forestry depot, but he spent much of his war service suffering from rheumatism, myalgia and bronchitis. On December 27, 1918, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was discharged from the military because he was medically unfit.

 

William Herbert Hawkes

William Herbert Hawkes was a storekeeper who lived in Vancouver in the early 1920s.

He was born in Ireland on January 16, 1882. His father was William Hawkes. His mother was Margaret Gillman.

On September 12, 1921, in Vancouver, William married Minnie Cairns. She was born in on October 4, 1889, in the Rural Municipality of Springfield. Her father was Archibald Cairns. Her mother was Mary Jane Spey (although one source says Anna Harrison).

William later worked as a longshoreman.

William died in Vancouver on February 13, 1937. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

In 1950, Minnie was the caretaker of the Oliver Apartments, 1116 Pendrell Street. She was living in apartment number 4.

Minnie died in Vancouver on January 10, 1965. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

Arthur was living with his mother at number 4, 1116 Pendrell Street in 1950. He was working as a pipe-fitter.

Arthur was living with his mother at 6128 Main Street in 1955. He was working as a boom-man for Western Plywood.

He was living in Vancouver in 1965.

 

Edna Hawkes

Edna F. Hawkes was a student nurse in 1950. She was living at 1056 Comox Street.

Edna was living in New Zealand in 1965.
