Susan Ann Jones was the widow of James Johnson Jones, who was a sea captain. She lived at 1874 Pendrell Street in 1916 and from 1919 to 1921.

 

Early Life

Susan Ann Jones was born Susan Ann Hancock in St. John, New Brunswick on February 3, 1846. Her parents were James Hancock and Mary Taylor.

 

Marriage to James Jones

On March 20, 1873, in Boston, Massachusetts, she married James Johnson Jones. He was born in Point De Bute, Westmorland County, New Brunswick. His parents were Nelson and Maria Jones.

James Jones sailed to many different destinations, and the family sometimes travelled with him.

In 1880 the family was living in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

In 1891 they were in St. John, New Brunswick.

In the early 1900s they were living at 22 Montgomery Street in Roath, which is part of Cardiff, Wales.

James died in Cardiff on April 16, 1906.

At the time of the 1911 England and Wales census, Susan and her daughters, Maud and Grace, were living at 8 Tydfil Place in Cardiff, not far from their earlier house on Montgomery Street.

The Vancouver directories first listed Susan in 1911. She was “Mrs. James Jones” and she was living at 344 East 15th Avenue.

Susan died in Vancouver on March 28, 1930. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

It appears that James and Susan had five children, including three daughters who moved to Vancouver with Susan.

 

Fredrick A. Jones

Fredrick A. Jones was born in the West Indies about 1874.

In 1880 he was living with his parents in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

In 1891 he was with his parents in St. John, New Brunswick.

No further information is available for him.

 

Florence Maude Jones

Florence Maude Jones was born in St. John, New Brunswick on September 19, 1878.

In 1880 she was living with her parents in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

In 1891 she was with her parents in St. John, New Brunswick.

In 1901 she was with her parents in Cardiff, Wales.

In 1911 she was with her mother in Cardiff.

She moved to Canada with her mother.

She never married.

She died in Vancouver on January 17, 1959. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

Susan Jones was born in Massachusetts in 1880. She was living with her parents in Massachusetts in the 1880 United States census.

No further information is available for her.

 

Grace Fenwick Jones

Grace Fenwick Jones was born in Boston, Massachusetts, about 1881.

In 1891 she was living with her parents in St. John, New Brunswick.

In 1901 she was with her parents in Cardiff, Wales. She was a school teacher.

In 1911 she was living with her mother in Cardiff, Wales. She was an elementary school teacher.

After she arrived in Canada she continued to work as a teacher.

She never married.

She died in Vancouver on March 8, 1974.

 

Blanche Mae (“Flo”) Jones

Blanche Mae (“Flo”) Jones was born in St. John, New Brunswick, on October 6, 1892. (Some sources say that she was born at sea in the South Atlantic Ocean.)

In 1901 she was living with her parents in Cardiff, Wales.

In 1911 she was with her mother in Cardiff.

She later lived with her mother in Vancouver.

She worked as a clerk.

She never married.

She died in Vancouver on May 10, 1966.
