Clayton, Isaac (1866-1931)

Isaac Clayton was a stevedore and labourer. in 1900 and 1901, he lived on the north side of Georgia Street, in the 1800 block or the 1900 block.

Isaac was born in Ireland on March 10, 1866 (or in 1859 or 1860, according to some sources). His father was Jacob Clayton.

Isaac married Margaret McRoberts. She was born on July 14, 1868, in Armagh, Ireland. Her father was William McRoberts.

By 1888, Isaac and Margaret were living in Kokomo, Indiana, when their daughter, Margaret Susan Clayton, was born. They came to Canada shortly afterward.

In 1891, Isaac, Margaret and Susan were living in Vancouver.

By 1894, Isaac was working as a longshoreman in Vancouver. He continued to work as a longshoreman and stevedore throughout the 1890s.

In 1901, the family was living in an unnumbered house on the north side of Georgia Street, west of Denman Street.

By 1905, Isaac was an employee of the Canadian Pacific Railway. He was living at 1608 Westminster Avenue (later called Main Street).

In 1906, the family moved to 352 East 14th Avenue, where they continued to live until at least the 1950s. Isaac worked as a longshoreman until about 1910. By 1911, he was a laborer for the City of Vancouver; he continued to work for the city throughout the rest of his working career.

Isaac died in Vancouver on August 10, 1931. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Margaret died in Vancouver on September 4, 1955. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

Isaac and Margaret had the following children.

 

Margaret Susan Clayton

Margaret Susan Clayton was born in Kokomo, Indiana, on November 29, 1888 or 1889.

On January 17, 1910, in Vancouver, she married Ernest Claude MacMicking, who was a real estate salesman. He was born in Elora, Ontario, on March 27, 1878. His father was William Peterson McMicking (1823-1912). His mother was Mary Ann McDermid (1839-1902).

Ernest later became an accountant for the Pacific National Exhibition in Vancouver.

Margaret died in Vancouver on October 16, 1940. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Ernest died in Vancouver on August 26, 1956.

 

William James Clayton

William James Clayton was born in Vancouver on March 8, 1893. He worked as a movie projectionist.

William married Ila Melissa Clayton. She was born in Ontario in October 1893. Her father was Charles E. Woodcock. Ila died in Vancouver on January 19, 1922. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

On February 5, 1923, in South Vancouver, William married Florence Margaret Mckay. She was born on September 20, 1904, in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Her father was Daniel McKay. Her mother was Mabel (or Maggie) Florence Gowler.

William died in Vancouver on August 28, 1961. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

 

Olive May (or Mae) Clayton

Olive May (or Mae) Clayton was born in Vancouver on March 1, 1906.

She never married. She died in Vancouver on December 27, 1992.

She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.
