Final internment will be in the Fawcett family plot at the Ross Bay Cemetery and a memorial park bench is to be installed by the “big rock” at the waterside park at Arm St next to the family property on the Gorge. A place of many good memories.”

Murdine (Ferrie) Shiner, obituary, Published in Victoria Times Colonist from Mar. 13 to Mar. 15, 2013; http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/timescolonist/obituary.aspx?n=murdine-shiner-ferrie&pid=163617249:

“Murdine (Ferrie) Shiner (July 26, 1921 / March 6, 2013): Murdine ‘Maudie’ Shiner, 91, sadly passed on Wednesday, March 6th , 2013, at the Lodge @ Broadmead in Victoria, BC where she had been a resident for the last 11 years under the kind palliative care of the wonderful staff.

Murdine was born on June 26, 1921, the eldest daughter of the late Robert Christian Ferrie and Isabella Macrae in the district of Wemyss, County of Fife, Scotland. At the age of two immigrated to Canada aboard the SS Cassandra, arriving in Quebec with her mother on Sept. 10, 1923. Maudie grew up as a young girl in Winnipeg becoming an accomplished speed skater, a passion she again revisited at 65 at the rink in Millbay, BC, having found a pair of men’s speed skates at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop. Sports remained an interest throughout her life from skiing on Cypress Mountain, BC to participating in the Nova Scotia Provincial Curling Playdowns. She continued curling on Vancouver Island well into her sixties.

She married the late CWO (Army, Retired) John Edgar Shiner in Vancouver at Christ Church Cathedral on September 6, 1946. Having been stationed across Canada with the Dental Corps, they were posted to CFB Cornwallis with their children in 1960 and returned to the island in 1969 upon retiring from service. Murdine was a very kind soul with a creative, loving and generous heart and her quick wit kept everyone on their toes. She loved to travel and garden and, in addition to sports, her interests included collecting old pieces of Canadiana and her beloved dogs.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John Edgar Shiner in 2004, her mother, Isabella Ferrie in 1993 and her siblings, Edna Hutton, and Robert (Bobbie) Christian Ferrie.

She leaves her memories to be cherished by her loving daughter, Louise Isabel Gardener of Victoria, BC and son, Donald Victor Shiner (Nancy Power) of Halifax, NS, her granddaughter, Jennifer Mary Frances Shiner (Donnie Hawco), Sydney, NS, great-grandchildren Alexander and Abigail Price Shiner and her grandson, Christopher John Edgar Shiner (Carolanne Martin) and their daughter Erin Kerr, Pemberton, BC.

A memorial gathering service will be held at The Lodge @Broadmead on April 5th, 2013 at 1:30 in the Oak Room, Victoria, BC
