Frederick William Elliott Martin was a mill-worker, contractor and farmer. He lived at 1851 Comox Street from 1912 to 1918.

Frederick William Elliott Martin was born on September 16, 1868, in British Square, St John’s, Newfoundland. (Some sources say that he was born in New Brunswick.) His father was Abraham Frederick Martin; his mother was Sarah Elliott.

A person named Fred Martin first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1898. He was an employee of the Hastings Saw Mill Company.

On November 8, 1899, in Vancouver, Frederick married Lucinda Elizabeth Adelaide Noble (sometimes called “Ada”). She was born on August 23, 1871, in Mulmur Township, Ontario. Her father was Robert Noble (1838-1904). Her mother was Dinah Summerville (1840-1888). (Robert and Dinah were both buried in Mulmur Pioneer Cemetery.)

By 1900, Frederick was a planerman for the E.H. Heaps Saw Mill. He was living at 1022 Powell Street.

The Martin family lived at the following addresses in Vancouver.

Ada died in Vancouver on September 24, 1917. She was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver.

About 1922, Frederick moved to Sperling, near Langley Prairie, British Columbia, and became a farmer.

On July 20, 1922, in Vancouver, Frederick married Elizabeth Moore. She was born in Belfast, Ireland, on October 31, 1873. Her father was John Moore. Her mother was Jean (Jane) Jones.

Frederick continued to work as a farmer through the early 1930s.

After Frederick retired about 1933, he and Elizabeth lived in the Langley Prairie area until the early 1960s.

Elizabeth died in Vancouver on December 18, 1961.

Frederick died in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, on June 19, 1962.

Frederick and Ada Noble had a daughter.

 

Alma Martin

Alma Martin was born in Vancouver on November 21, 1907.

She worked for a time as a creamery operator.

On October 4, 1930, in Fort Langley, British Columbia, Alma married Walter Sidney Cross, who was a waiter. He was born in Hull, Yorkshire, England, on September 13, 1906. His father was Amos Routledge Cross. Walter’s mother was Louise Kate Thorley.

Walter and Alma lived in the Agassiz area of British Columbia. Walter worked for Rivtow, a large towing and transport company.

Walter died in Chilliwack, British Columbia, on April 29, 1987.

Alma died in Chilliwack on April 26, 1992.
