Paxton, James Thompson Tighe (1865-1943)

James Thompson Tighe Paxton was the manager of the British Canadian Lumber Corporation and the British Columbia Iowa Lumber Company. He lived at 990 Gilford Street in 1917 and 1918. (It appears that 990 Gilford Street was also numbered as 1891 Nelson Street after 1911.)

James Thompson Tighe Paxton was born in County Down, Ireland, about 1865.

It appears that he married Beatrice Minor sometime before 1896.

By 1896 he was in Sydney, Australia.

In 1908 he became the consul of Panama at Brisbane in Queensland, Australia.

Before 1911, he was the London representative of the Huon Timber Company Limited. In 1911, he resigned as the company’s representative.

In 1913, in Croydon, Surrey, he married Mary Minot.

James appeared in the Vancouver directories from 1917 to 1919.

In 1918 he was the receiver of the British Canadian Lumber Corporation Limited, and he advertised the assets of the corporation in the Portland Oregonian newspaper.

After 1919 he lived in England. By 1923, he was living at 55 Beulah Hill in London. He died in London, England, on October 16, 1943.

Further information is not available for Beatrice or Mary.

It appears that James and Beatrice had a daughter, Doris Margaret Paxton, and two sons, Anthony Lauderdale Paxton, and Terence Maitland Tighe Paxton.

 

Doris Margaret Paxton

Doris Margaret Paxton was born in Sydney, Australia, about 1890.

In 1911 she was living with her parents in London, England.

In 1912, she accompanied her father to northern Mexico.

 

Anthony Lauderdale Paxton

Anthony Lauderdale Paxton was born in Sydney, Australia, on August 7, 1896.

He studied at Dulwich College, and later went to Mexico as a cattle rancher. In 1915, he became honorary British Vice-Consul at Sonora in Northern Mexico.

In 1916, he moved to Vancouver for a short time. He joined the British Royal Flying Corps, went to England, and later became a member of an Australian squadron in France.

In 1924, he married Phyllis Joan Bradford.

After the war, he was with the Royal Air Force, both in combat and as a flying instructor.

By 1937 he was a wing commander. During the Second World War he served in Africa and Canada. After the war he had other roles in the Air Force. He retired in 1950. He died on September 25, 1957.

Phyllis died in Brighton, England on June 3, 1967.

Anthony and Phyllis had two sons. One was Michael Maitland Tighe Paxton (1929-2004).

 

Terence Maitland Tighe Paxton

Terence Maitland Tighe Paxton was born in Fulham, London, in 1905. In 1935 he married Olive (sometimes Olave) Long.

Terence died in Torbay, Devon, in 1984.
