Charles Frederick Covernton was a physician. He lived at 1821 Haro Street from 1916 to 1920.
He was born in Montreal, Quebec on May 11, 1879. His father was Carleton John Covernton (1845-1913); his mother was Mina Stevenson (about 1852-1888).
Charles went to the Ontario College of Pharmacy and graduated in 1900. Later he went to the medical school at McGill University in Montreal, and graduated in 1905.
When he arrived in Vancouver in 1909, he became a member of the staff at the Vancouver General Hospital.
On December 26, 1911, Charles married Gladys Margaret Campbell. She was born on January 18, 1884, in Montreal. Her father was George Allan Campbell (1854-1928), who was a member of the Board of Trade and a leader of the Boy Scout movement in British Columbia. (He was also an ancestor of Gordon Campbell, who was the Premier of British Columbia from 2001 to 2011). Gladys’s mother was Mary Ward (1856-1928).
From 1936 to 1941, Charles was the head of the pediatrics service of the Vancouver General Hospital.
He died in Vancouver on October 30, 1958.
Gladys died in Vancouver on November 16, 1948.
Charles and Gladys had three sons, who also studied medicine, and two daughters.
