Kerr, Allen James (1884-about 1932)

Allen James Kerr was an insurance agent and investment bond dealer. He lived at 1833 Comox Street in 1919 and 1920.

Early Life

He was born on February 4, 1884, in London, Ontario. His father was Frederick Warren Kerr. His mother was Juliet Daniel.

In 1891, he appears to have been living with his mother’s family in St. John, New Brunswick.

By 1901, he was working as a banker in Waterloo, Ontario.

In 1906, he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to work with the Toronto General Trusts Corporation.

In 1911, he was a clerk with the Winnipeg office of the Toronto General Trusts Corporation.

On June 15, 1912, in Winnipeg, he married Lucy McDougall. She was born in Franklin, Manitoba, on February 19, 1890. Her parents were Norman McDougall and Ellen May Strange.

In 1919 and 1920, Allan and Lucy were at 1833 Comox Street.

Allan and Lucy were members of the Connaught Figure Skating Club. For a time in the early 1920s, Allan was the B.C. figure skating champion.

In 1921 and 1922, they were at number 46 in Englesea Lodge, at 2046 Beach Avenue. Allan had his own brokerage firm.

Later Life

After 1922, Allan and Lucy did not appear in the Vancouver directories.

It appears that they went to live in eastern Canada, possibly in Quebec City. Allan apparently died in 1932.

By 1934, Lucy was in England. She married Frank Beverley (1880-1972), who was a lawyer and the Recorder of Bradford, England. Frank had served with the British military during the First World War. It appears that Frank and Lucy later lived in Jersey in the Channel Islands. Frank died on January 16, 1972.

Allan and Lucy had a son.

Alastair McDougall Kerr

Alastair McDougall Kerr was born on November 19, 1914, probably in British Columbia.

It appears that he moved to England with his mother, in the 1930s. In the late 1930s, he was a law student. During the Second World War, he served with the British military forces.

In 1948, Alastair married Monica Mary Beverley.

It appears that Alastair died in Bournemouth, Dorset, England in 1982.
