Frank Dodson was a machinist who lived at 1876 Beach Avenue in 1904.

Frank Dodson was born on June 9, 1875, in Nottingham, England. His father was Thomas Dodson (1844-1887), who was a hotel keeper and licensed victualer (seller of food and alcohol).

Frank’s mother was Maria Eleanor Mason, who was born about 1842 in Dunham, Nottinghamshire. (She may have married Thomas Holland in 1892.)

In the late 1890s, Frank went to North America. He may have spent some time in the Yukon.

On March 8, 1899, in Juneau, Alaska, Frank married Margaret McWhinnie. She was born in Ontario on April 1, 1871. It appears that her parents were Henry and Sarah McWhinnie.

In 1900, Frank and Margaret were living in Douglas, Alaska, which is near Juneau.

Frank first appeared in the Vancouver directories in 1904. He was living at 1876 Beach Avenue, and he was working as a machinist.

From about 1909 to 1923, he was a real estate broker and property estate manager.

From 1923 to 1938 he was a patent attorney.

Frank died in Vancouver on August 14, 1938. He was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby, British Columbia.

Margaret died in Burnaby on April 23, 1947. She was buried in Ocean View Burial Park in Burnaby.

Frank and Margaret had the following children.

 

Edith May Dodson

Edith May Dodson was born in Douglas, Alaska, on December 18, 1899.

On November 19, 1928, in Vancouver, she married Gerald Charlton, who was a builder. He was born in Keighley, Yorkshire, England on April 8, 1898. His father was Harry Charlton. His mother was Jane Broughton. Gerald had served during the First World War, and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Gerald died in Burnaby, British Columbia on May 28, 1982.

Edith died in Burnaby on December 15, 1993.

 

Percy (Bryon) Dodson

Percy (Bryon) Dodson was born in Douglas, Alaska, on November 21, 1901.

On October 2, 1930, in Vancouver, he married Jessie Grafton. She was born in Rush City, Minnesota, about 1891. Her father was Robert Henry Green. Her mother was Matilda Jane Horne.

Percy died in Chilliwack, British Columbia, on December 8, 1958.

“Frank Dobson [sic], 63, native of England, and resident in Vancouver 45 years, died at his home, 1772 Haro Street.

Mr. Dodson was in the Yukon during the gold rush, and in 1899 at Juneau, Alaska, married Margaret McWhinney.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Gerald Charlton, Vancouver; one son, Percy Dodson, West Vancouver.

Funeral services will be conducted in T. Edwards Co. Chapel, Tenth and Granville Street, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, by Rev. C.G.F. [sic] Stone; interment Ocean View Burial Park.”

Brown in England, Mr. Dodson mined gold in the Yukon. In 1893 [sic] he came to Vancouver, where he was a real estate agent until fifteen years ago. From 1923 to 1938 he was a patent attorney.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Gerold [sic] Charlton, and one son, Percy, in West Vancouver.”
